In Gaza, WFP has scaled up assistance since October 2023, reaching more than 1.2 million people each month. This includes families who require emergency assistance when affected by conflict and displacement, as well as nutrition and hot meals activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The current IPC (Integrated Phase Classification) for Gaza shows that more than 90% of the population remains food insecure and in need of urgent assistance. WFP VAM (Vulnerability, Analysis and Mapping), ) performs a vital function to ensure accurate assessment, analysis, and understanding of food and nutrition security issues, trends, and challenges to inform evidence-based decision-making across the WFP programme. The function utilizes surveys, analysis, and other data-driven products to support responsive and quality programming, whether through in-kind of cash-based approaches, monitors markets and food insecurity, informs targeting and prioritization exercises and contributes to a strategic overview of WFP objectives and mission.

JOB PURPOSE

The objective of this role is to support field-level evidence building and context understanding and ensure a close working relationship between the operations at the field level and the Head of VAM in the WFP Country Office. The position will coordinate, as needed, data and information gathering exercises, contribute to the analysis and resulting analytical products, and contribute to exercises such as targeting and prioritization, ensuring the availability of evidence to support decision-making and food security assessments. This post will be supervised by the Gaza Head of Programme, with a functional reporting line to the Head of VAM in the CO.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Within delegated authority, the program associate  will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate assessment exercises as required within Gaza to provide evidence and quick solutions to pressing operational issues or as part of wider assessment and analysis processes.
  • Support the VAM unit in developing food security assessment and monitoring, market, and vulnerability analysis.
  • Assist in coordinating VAM data collection, cleaning and analysis activities ensuring data completeness, timeliness, and quality.
  • Support the production of newsletters and periodic reports on food security and market price trends.
  • Contribute to refining approaches and tools, such as programme questionnaires for market data collection.
  • Contributing to preparing periodic food security and market price monitoring reports for the Gaza Strip.
  • Monitor and update socioeconomic data pertaining to the Gaza Strip, specifically market prices, labour force data, CPI, and import and export figures.
  • Contribute to the market information products necessary to inform decision-making during programme implementation as part of the VAM Unit role.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, such as economics, data analytics, social sciences, etc. Advanced degree (Masters) in a related area is an advantage.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant post-university work experience, including 2 years in an analytical capacity.

Language: Fluency (level C) in in oral and written communication in Arabic and in English.

Desired Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise and experience working with quantitative and qualitative data collection methods , either applied or within the social sciences.
  • Experience of using excel, SPSS and other related tools for data analysis as well as Tableau/PowerBI for data visualization.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization methodologies
  • Developed expertise and knowledge of technical dynamics of food and nutrition security.
  • Experience with the quantitative food security and market analysis
