Internship Overview: The Employer Engagement Communications and Development
Intern will support program development and implementation to support refugee
employees at the Employer Engagement Program (EEP) employer partners. This
opportunity allows interns to work closely with the EEP team and assist them with
tailoring program curriculum, connecting refugee employees to resources, and assist
refugee employees in integrating into the U.S. workforce. The Employer Engagement
Program is a grant acquired through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week for one semester January 15 – May 15, 2025; regular schedule each week during business hours 9am – 5pm.

Location: IRC Denver office, 1873 S. Bellaire St, Suite 500, Denver, CO 80222

Reports to: Employer Engagement Specialist, under the direction of the Career
Development and Financial Empowerment Supervisor.

Duties:

• Assist refugee employees with aspects of classroom participation, English-language acquisition, resume refining, professional development goals, etc.
• Collaborate with EEP team and Employment team to development program materials, including marketing materials (Newsletter, informational flyers), business development outreach and strategies, and classroom materials
• Account management, including fostering relationships with community partners and refugee stakeholders
• Specific projects could include: career services and job upgrades, developing partnerships with new employer partners/industry-specific employer outreach, creating and refining data systems and data analysis, and support classroom facilitation and curriculum refinement
• Support with event management and planning (job fairs, classroom, job club,
etc.)

Learning objectives:
The Employer Engagement Program interns will learn about the employment challenges faced by refugees in the U.S. workforce, and will explore ways to help them overcome barriers and work towards self-sufficiency, economic stability, and advancement in their goals related to their employment. They will gain skills in engaging with community members, employment specialists, and employer-related companies regarding refugee populations and learn how the resettlement process works. The EEP interns will also learn about the process of working underneath a grant and adhering to program objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Skills:   

• Enrollment as undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate
• Willingness to communicate with speakers with limited English proficiency. Platforms such as language line, Tarjimly, and Google Translate will be at your disposal.
• Openness to working with people from varied backgrounds.
• Basic understanding of US job search processes and work culture.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.

Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in another language desirable but not required.
• Be able to transport clients in a reliable vehicle.
