Background/IRC Summary:

The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Today, 13.4 million people in Syria - more than half of the country's population - need humanitarian assistance with needs increasingly being exacerbated by economic decline. Of these, 6.8 million are refugees and asylum-seekers who have fled the country. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes, and infrastructure will take years to repair.

IRC is offering a robust humanitarian response to the Syria crisis a rapidly expanding portfolio, supported by more than 1000+ staff in Syria Country Program. IRC is undertaking programs in Syria and the neighboring countries of Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan in the fields of health, child protection, early childhood development, education, women’s protection and empowerment, non-food items and food distribution, cash assistance, water and sanitation, protection and rule of law, and livelihood programming. Our work in these challenging settings gives rise to some of the most pressing issues facing contemporary humanitarian action, including questions of access, security, funding and coordination.

Job Overview/Summary:

As part of its Syria response the IRC is expanding its portfolio to provide specialized child protection (CP) services in Al Hol  Camp. The SAFE Facilitator will identify beneficiaries for the SAFE Program and implement all the sessions included in the relevant curriculum. The SAFE Program facilitator will also build relationship with the local community to ensure community acceptance.

Position Objectives:

  • Identify beneficiaries to the Supporting teens and their families during emergencies Program.
  • Facilitate SAFE Program training sessions to Supporting Adolescents and their Families in Emergencies (SAFE) program.
  • Work closely with case workers from the case management program as part of their referral pathway.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a SAFE team to generate learning on implementing the SAFE approach
  • Work as part of a Child Protection in a safe space to provide support to adolescent girls and boys as part of broader response services.
  • Participate in an initial SAFE approach training and engage in ongoing skills building using SAFE learning materials with supervisor.
  • With support from supervisors, mentor, and coach the adolescent girls and boys.
  • Lead community engagement activities to introduce SAFE activities to female and male community leaders and caregivers.
  • Work closely with other project staff to identify adolescent girls, adolescent boys, and female and male caregivers to participate in SAFE learning activities.
  • Act as lead facilitator to deliver sessions twice a week for adolescent girls or boys.
  • Facilitate sessions once a week for female or male caregivers
  • Facilitate feedback meetings with adolescent girls and boys, female and male community stakeholders and caregivers and share feedback with supervisor
  • Complete weekly reports on project activities, including documenting feedback from participants of SAFE sessions and proactively sharing back lessons learned whilst facilitating the curricula
  • Participate in debriefing sessions with supervisors and share reflections, lessons learned and recommendations to strengthen SAFE program approach.
  • Prepare lesson plans and support in curriculum adaptations.

Reporting

  • Submit weekly program disaggregated data and indicator tracking reports to the CP Officer.
  • Compile, edit, and write monthly program reports using assigned template.

General Administration:

  • Follow up with the CP Officer to ensure all required materials for the activities are available.
  • Other duties as requested by the CP Officer.

Other

  • All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferably, a degree in education, social work, human rights, or any other related degrees.
  • Completion of secondary education is required.
  • Advocate of Child Rights, Child Protection, & Child Safeguarding.
  • Experience in conducting psychosocial activities and learning sessions for children/adolescents.
  • Demonstrate understanding working in challenging situations.
  • Confirmed experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Experience with facilitation of group work with relevant populations
  • At least one year experience working to support children, adolescent girl and boys, women or parents and caregivers
  • Experience in working with street and working children preferable
  • Familiar with working for an NGO/ humanitarian organization preferable
  • Personal qualities: communicative, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
  • Ability to organize and manage data; and always adhering to confidentiality and respect for clients always is essential.
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Flexible and able to work in a dynamic and diverse environment

Language/Travel:

  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic.
  • Travel: 100% to field sites in Al HolCamp as well as attending regional and global workshops, trainings, and meetings.
