The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment.

 

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to join the GGGI Indonesia Country Program’s Circular Economy Team as an intern, focusing on plastics circularity investment in Indonesia. As part of this initiative, the intern will contribute to advancing circular economy practices by supporting efforts to enhance investment in sustainable plastics management. The role involves providing both technical and administrative assistance to ensure prompt, responsive, and high-quality program delivery, working closely with key government partners to drive green growth and circular economy objectives at both national and sub-national levels.

The intern will assist in a wide range of administrative tasks and support the technical delivery of ongoing work under GGGI’s circular economy workstreams, including on plastics waste management and other circular economy initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience and training in various aspects of technical, administrative, and project management, while also developing a solid understanding of an inter-governmental organization. This role will offer valuable exposure to circular economy practices, sustainable development, green production and waste management. The intern will also engage with key government officials, helping to build their professional network during and beyond the internship period.

The assignment will include, but not be limited to:

  • Provide support for research and analysis on enabling circular economy initiatives, especially in plastics supply chain, including regulations, policies, stakeholders and instruments from key government partners and relevant national and international organizations.
  • Provide support in quantitative analysis regarding recycled plastics, bio plastics and plastics waste landscape in Indonesia
  • Support research and analysis on mobilizing circular economy efforts at national and sub-national levels in Indonesia, with a focus on sustainable plastics management.
  • Provide support in the engagement with key government and sub-national partners as needed, assisting in the development of materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, teasers).
  • Provide general support to program activities and assist with the preparation or processing of meetings and workshops, including confirming participants, securing venues, drafting Terms of Reference, and preparing agendas.
  • Support Circular Economy initiatives and consultants with administrative procedures, including travel, workshops, and other arrangements.
  • Assist with event and meeting logistics, including notetaking, documentation, organizing attendance lists, and processing reimbursements.
  • Support the preparation of project communication materials.
  • Perform other activities as directed by the supervisor to support Circular Economy initiatives.
  • Commit to work full-time (40 hours per week) from 27th January 2025 to 27th July 2025

 

ELIGIBILITY                                               

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), OR be enrolled in a Master’s program, OR a recent graduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s) within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the GGGI’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English, able to produce written material, and involve in day-to-day English-based communication and meetings.
 
QUALIFICATION
  • A Bachelor’s degree in economics, accounting, finance, environmental management or natural resource management, circular economy, sustainable development or other related topics.
  • Having a minimum of 3 months years of work experience would be an asset.
  • Strong oral and written English with a proven record of IELTS/TOEFL would be an advantage, and fluency in Indonesian is essential.
  • A pro-active, can-do attitude, with an ability to innovate in finding solutions.
  • Highly organized with an eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multi-cultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong skill in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Good level of proficiency in computer illustration applications (e.g. Canva, Adobe Illustrator, etc).
  • Experience/knowledge of circular economy and climate change issues is an asset.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Duration: The internship program is for six months. Once selected, interns must begin the internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: This position is based at GGGI Indonesia’s Jakarta Office, but with the possibility to be based in the counterpart’s office and meeting places outside Jakarta if necessary. The intern will arrange and finance their own costs to support and ensure effective and timely work, including travel to the office and potential offline meetings (applied only in Jabodetabek) if necessary.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
