Mission and objectives
Mission and objectives in UVP are taken directly from the host entity profile . The purpose of the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) is to maximise, in a coordinated fashion, the work of the UNCT so that the system can provide a collective, coherent and integrated response to national priorities and needs, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international commitments. There are five core functions for the UN RCO:
• Strategic planning;
• Development economics;
• Partnerships and development finance;
• Data and results management and reporting;
• Communications and advocacy.

Context
Lebanon continues to grapple with the consequences of an unprecedented economic and financial collapse, compounded by instability and growing social vulnerabilities. The crisis has limited the capacity of public institutions and deepened poverty. The context underscored the urgency of recovery efforts that address both immediate needs and systemic fragilities.
Within this complex environment, the United Nations is working with the Government of Lebanon, development partners, and civil society to chart a coordinated path toward recovery and development. The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) provides strategic leadership and coordination to ensure that UN support contributes to restoring basic services, reviving local economies, strengthening institutional capacities, and advancing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RCO’s work focuses on promoting coherent, data-driven, and inclusive recovery approaches that bridge humanitarian response with longer-term reforms and investments.
In this context, the UN Volunteer will primarily support the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in preparing meeting summaries and analytical documents, including background notes, situations reports, option and country team position papers, in coordination with relevant UNCT members. Additionally, the UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in following up on rights issues and liaising with relevant UN entities on human rights and gender matters, supporting the preparation of reports for various mechanisms. The UN Volunteer would also provide substantive and practical support in preparing for conferences and meetings as necessary. This would support the overall development of strategies and other measures designed to achieve common objectives and cross pillar cooperation. These documents will facilitate the flow of information between stakeholders, as well as support common positioning and the agreement on key priorities, with an aim to overall support coherence of strategies among UN agencies and the Mission.
