Within the current context of emergency response, the volunteers will support implementing community-based psychological support, awareness sessions, and psychological first aid activities or act as a focal point/information desk in schools identified as formal shelters to support IDPs accessing different services. 

The overall objective of this role is to support the IRC team in providing timely and effective assistance to internally displaced people (IDP) and their children during emergencies.

The volunteers will work closely with the facilitators, school and shelter directors, local and community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to promote a safe and supportive environment for children in the areas of displacement.

Deliverables:

  • Support in the Community-based PSS implementation to the displaced children and adolescents in chosen schools/shelters or centers.
  • Support in conducting risk mitigation and awareness sessions
  • Data collection and outreach, if necessary and based on the request.
  • Distribute Non-food item kits as requested and required by the emergency response team.
  • Act as a support information desk and help in the operation of the schools and learning spaces.
  • Contribute to the safe identification and referral of cases to the needed services.
  • Support in establishing a Safe Healing and Learning Space (SHLS) to ensure children have access to a child friendly space within the shelters.

Position Reports to Child Protection Facilitator.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in NGOs or volunteering
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience using data collection tool
  • Experience with community engagement
  • Volunteers will benefit from a package of training from the International Rescue Committee team to support and facilitate their work.
