Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context. 

 

DRC Ukraine is looking for a Deminer based in Mykolaiv and other regions.

About the job:                                                                                               

Deminer receives work assignments from the Humanitarian Mine Action Team Lead (Demining).

Place of work: Mykolaiv and other regions

Direct supervisor:  Humanitarian Mine Action Supervisor – Demining Supervisor

Deminer is guided in his/her work by this job description, standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP), and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC)

Permit for independent work of Deminer is carried out after training and checking knowledge of the SOP.

The position “HMA Team Member (Deminer)” is classified as employment band "J" according to Position evaluation & title tool (PETT Tool).

 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Considering the specifics of work in the field of humanitarian demining, the general rules, methods and technologies by which humanitarian demining is carried out are described in detail in the SOP, according to which the deminer must:

  • Ensure that their clearance equipment is in good working order prior to leaving the CP. 
  • Conduct their work in a safe manner and as by the DRC HDP SOPs. 
  • Inform the TL when discovering a suspected EO. 
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained on a daily basis prior to departing the CP. 
  • Report any malfunctions or damage to equipment to the TL immediately. 
  • Participate in training. 
  • Carry out other tasks as dictated by changing circumstances or as required by the TL.
  • Adhere to DRC Code of Conduct

 

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least Secondary Education and Vocational Education or Secondary Education and Professional training in a relevant organization, without work experience.

Moreover, we also expect the following: 

Required 

- Physical and psychological endurance with a desire to engage in physically demanding manual labor.

- Willingness to work away from home for long periods of time.

- Excellent discipline and ability to follow direct instructions.

- No problems with alcohol and drug use.

Desirable 

- Driving license and experience of driving

- Previous work experience as a team member

- Knowledge of English language would be an advantage

We offer

Contract length: 3 months with possibility of extension based on available funding.
