Context and Job Purpose

The GICHD works to support the management and reduction of risks posed by explosive ordnance, as well as improved resilience of affected communities. The Communication team is in charge of implementing the communication strategy of the GICHD, reaching out to the key stakeholders in explosive ordnance risk reduction, human security, humanitarian and development fields, the media and the wider public. The team is in charge of the editorial agenda, handles the digital and print materials and public relation activities (including social media, events, and media relations).

Key Responsibilities

Impact reporting

  1. Manage the drafting, review, and production of the annual report:
  • Coordinate the collection of information
  • Propose a table of contents, overall narrative and highlights
  • Draft the report
  • Coordinate design/edit with external suppliers
  • Suggest a concept for the video + create the video with an external supplier
  • Coordination with the digital coordinator to create the AR webpage
  • Coordinate the launch + print

2. Manage the copy-editing and design of the performance report in coordination with the RBM coordinator

3. Update the corporate brochure + style guide

Events/trips:

  • NDM event April 2025: Act as the communications focal point for this conference, create the branding and communications materials for the event, source a photographer and support during the event for any communications needs.
  • Ukraine Donor Coordination workshop April 2025: Support communications for this event, including updating the branding concept and materials and the development of key messages, source a photographer and support during the event for any communications needs.
  • Preparations for Innovation Conference in Luxembourg in November 2025: Act as the communications focal point for this conference. Support for branding and design, development of key messaging, similar to NDM preparation, but additional challenge of working in a new location.
  • Support the communications manager with comms materials to develop for the EORE trip to Benin in May 2025.

 Publications:

  • Support teams with their publications request: coordinate the external copy-editing, design, translation, print and launch, draft press releases (around 2-4 publications per semester). With the launch of the new style guide, ensure that all written materials are consistent with the guide.

Corporate branding:

  • Coordinate and supervise the design and production of printed corporate materials, such as maps and banners, in collaboration with designers.
  • Support the consistent use of the GICHD corporate identity by developing and maintaining corporate templates for documents, presentations, and training materials.
  • Coordinate the design of slides, illustrations or icons for trainings.

Suppliers:

  • Maintain an updated list of external service providers for publications and other print products. Process and follow up with contracts and expense reports related to publications, design work and events.

Photos:

  • Support management of a photo library, sourcing classifying photos for use in communication materials.

Media:

  • Monitor the GICHD presence in the media and support the Communications Manager in drafting press releases for local/national/international media.

Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Communications Manager

Qualifications and professional experience

  • University degree in communication, journalism, international relations, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications and public relations in an international setting. 

Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • Experience in the fields of corporate communication, publications and/or public relations; knowledge of international public sector or civil society a plus 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English; professional knowledge of French or another language is an advantage. 
  • Experience in managing external service providers. 
  • Project management skills and ability to deliver within tight time frames

  • May be required to travel occasionally.

Salary Information

Please note that the salary level for this role is between CHF 98'330.- and CHf 100'468.- yearly gross, subject to social security deductions and income tax.
