SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for individuals who contribute Under the supervision of the FSCP Manager, the Gender Inclusion officer is responsible and actively engaged in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the gender mainstreaming activities of the project, fulfilling the donor compliances. S/he has the mandate to coordinate and work with relevant local partners and stakeholders of the project to ensure integrated and need-based service delivery to targets. S/he will provide monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and report to the line manager and updates on project activities as per government and donor requirements.

Your role?
Major tasks and responsibilities
- Proven experience combining formal expertise on gender and disability mainstreaming and gender equality with experience in applying these concretely to specific program sectors, especially in education;
- Knowledge of gender equality and disability training tools and methods and proven experience delivering training on gender-responsive programs;
- Experience in the inclusion of protection measures against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and cooperation with any work to end Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs).
- Prior experience in addressing socio-cultural and gender norms and barriers to education and participation in decision-making and leadership of girls, women, boys, and youth
- At least 5 years of experience in Gender equality integrated in other sectors, preferably Education
- Knowledge of current global, regional, and national debates on gender equality and disability policies and models;
- Good conceptual and theoretical understanding of the rights of persons with disabilities, CPRD and child rights and ability to provide operational and technical advice on disability mainstreaming into education programs;
- Experience with supporting mechanisms to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse (PSHEA);
- Proven experience in developing and managing high-quality, innovative and cost-effective gender equality programming in complex environments and with International NGOs, preferably working with implementing partners.
- Proven experience and skills in gender analysis, gender audits, safety audits, gender-related research and advocacy, and writing high-quality gender assessment reports.
- Ability to extensively support for project monitoring and provide on-site technical support to partner CSOs.
Child and Youth safeguarding
- Responsible in taking part in awareness sessions and capacity-building trainings in relation to Child and Youth Safeguarding (CYS) to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
- Support children and young people to make them understand the CYS risks and protection mechanisms
- Responsible to report any CYS suspicion, concern, allegation and incident immediately, following Child and Youth Safeguarding reporting procedures. CYS reports should be made to the CYS team at program level and/or to the respective line manager
Job Requirements
Must criteria :
Education: BA/MA in Gender and development, Social Work, Public Health, psychology, International Development, or other relevant field of study preferred
Experience: A minimum of 5 years direct international humanitarian field experience. Professional and technical experience matching the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities.
Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Hands-on experience managing GBV prevention and response programs and experience in conducting GBV assessments;
- Familiarity with standards and current guidance for GBV prevention, response, and coordination,
- Ability to work well with a team in the organization as well as local partners
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages in Harari region
- Understanding of a survivor-centered approach, including GBV Guiding Principles
- Commitment to gender equality; Promotes and integrates gender analysis and mainstreaming into humanitarian programming
- Empathy and positive interpersonal skills, including cultural competence
- Understands principles and practice of a case management approach and can apply to GBV programs
- Critical analysis skills including context, trends, and vulnerabilities related to GBV
- Knowledge of prevention of sexual, harassment, exploitation and abuse responsibilities and support implementation
- Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
