CIMMYT Academy is a capacity development function that facilitates strengthening the capacities of external stakeholders (NARES partners, farmers, students, interns, visiting scientists and researchers, etc.) and internal staff members. The Capacity Development Manager is responsible for leading the Knowledge-Sharing and Capacity development initiatives of the CIMMYT Academy in collaboration with CIMMYT’s research programs and support functions.

The location of this position will be Texcoco, Mexico.

Duties and Responsabilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of effective Knowledge-Sharing and Capacity development solutions to implement the Academy’s offerings.
  • Collaborate with Research programs and Regional and Country Offices to ensure that CIMMYT Academy’s programs are coordinated with opportunities in Knowledge-Sharing and Capacity Development areas.
  • Develop technical solutions to best support Research programs in developing training curricula, manuals, modules, and relevant guidelines including training and learning materials (flip chart, flash card, process card, booklet, handout and video learning aid etc.)
  • Develop educational solutions, improving the learning curriculum, manuals, modules as well as necessary training and learning materials for their inclusion in the Academy repository.
  • Design, deliver and monitor partner training plans for the Academy, in collaboration with scientists, program directors and managers, and external experts that meet the needs of global south stakeholders. 
  • Manage the Student training program, including the contracting, on and off boarding of all CIMMYT students globally.
  • Indicators on the activities and impact of capacity development services.
  • Ensure the content and delivery of CIMMYT Academy meet CIMMYT’s quality standards and contribute to the long-term knowledge sharing and capacity development community within the Research Programs, and country offices aligned with the strategy of CIMMYT Academy.
  • Document and prepare regular reports documenting processes, outputs and outcomes of capacity development work achievements and conduct project monitoring, evaluating, learning, improvements related to the Academy based on metrics and Key Performance.
  • Manage and oversee the Academy’s partnerships with universities, develop learning programs in partnership, and increase the volume and adherence of students applying to CIMMYT Academy offerings.
  • Establish and manage CIMMYT Academy’s communication and marketing strategy including Website, LinkedIn and social media Pages, Intranet, Learning Management System/ Learning Experience Platforms and other appropriate mediums in partnership with communications area.
  • Monitor budget and generate resources and funding for the CIMMYT Academy.

  • Master’s degree in Education, Agriculture, Capacity Development, Administration, International Relations or a similar field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the field of education, capacity development, knowledge-sharing, skills development, agriculture extension or similar field.
  • Excellent knowledge of capacity development and knowledge-sharing theory and the application of the methodology, good understanding of capacity assessment methodologies; excellent ability to identify significant capacity development opportunities.
  • Experience in the organization of formal and informal training programs for a range of stakeholders, including farmers, extension workers from government, NGOs, and private sector, etc. in agricultural disciplines.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills are required.
  • Fluent and effective communication skills in English.
  • Intermediate level of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Experience with MS Dynamics is desirable and with Learning Management Systems.
