Overview of position

Background information:

  • On 24 February 2022, the military of the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine, with strikes across the territory of Ukraine. Since then, Russia’s invasion imposes a severe humanitarian & socio economic toll, global energy & food crisis, large scale destruction of the country's infrastructure & disruptions in the provision of critical services & degradation of social fabrics & communities’ ties, triggering one of the world’s most significant forced displacements. 

  • Severe attacks on energy & critical infrastructure facilities leave millions of people without electricity, water or heating supply, struggling to access water, food, health services, materials to repair homes, among others. The continued attacks cause substantial damage to the country’s economy, agricultural production & also affect the poorest countries worldwide.

  • Our client support to its partners spans the humanitarian development nexus from emergency response to building back better, across the housing, health, education, transport, energy & mine action sectors, through infrastructure, procurement & technical assistance / project management interventions, with the ultimate aim of supporting the country on its EU accession & in its achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).

Background information - Job specific:

  • Funded by the Government of the Netherlands, our client is seeking a Medical Doctor or Paramedic Trainer to develop & deliver a medical “Train the Trainer” curriculum in line with Ukrainian standards. This role is crucial for enhancing the medical response capabilities of Ukrainian state institutions involved in humanitarian demining & Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The Trainer will focus on modern techniques to save lives & limbs, ensuring that Ukrainian Trainers are equipped with the necessary skills & knowledge. Additionally, the Trainer will assist with the specification of medical equipment & coordinate with other organisations involved in providing medical training to integrate best practices & recent lessons learned.

Role objectives

Curriculum development & training:

  • Develop a comprehensive “Train the Trainer” medical curriculum tailored to the needs of Ukrainian state institutions involved in humanitarian demining & EOD.

  • Ensure the curriculum aligns with Ukrainian standards & incorporates modern techniques for lifesaving & limb saving procedures.

  • Deliver training sessions to trainers from Ukrainian state institutions, ensuring they are capable of cascading the training to their teams effectively.

Equipment specification & coordination:

  • Assist in the specification of medical equipment required for humanitarian demining & EOD operations.

  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely acquisition & delivery of necessary medical equipment.

  • Monitor, track the usage & condition of medical equipment to ensure optimal utilisation & maintenance.

Liaison & coordination:

  • Establish & maintain effective communication channels with Ukrainian authorities, including relevant ministries, agencies & departments involved in mine action & medical response activities.

  • Liaise with other organisations providing medical training to integrate best practices & ensure a cohesive approach.

  • Coordinate & facilitate information exchange between our client, Ukrainian authorities & other stakeholders, ensuring timely & accurate dissemination of relevant information.

Monitoring & reporting:

  • Monitor & report on the progress of the training program, identifying challenges & proposing solutions to enhance its effectiveness.

  • Contribute to the development of reports, briefings & other communication materials related to our clients program.

  • Ensure accurate documentation of all training activities, including curriculum development, training sessions & coordination efforts.

Project reporting

This role reports to the Head of Operations.

Key competencies
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in medicine, nursing, public health or related field with 5 years of relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the same field with 7 years of relevant experience or a technical or professional diploma in related subjects with 9 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Relevant experience is experience in medical response & training, including trauma care, emergency medical procedures & lifesaving techniques, particularly in a military, security, humanitarian, conflict, post conflict.

  • A Ukrainian driving license (category “B”) is required.

  • Experience in developing & delivering training programs & curricula is essential.

  • Experience working with state institutions & understanding of Ukrainian medical standards & protocols is desirable.

  • Fluent in Ukrainian (read, write & speak) is required.

  • Working knowledge of English is desirable & Ukrainian is required.
