Position Objective

Reporting to the Director General and Legal Counsel of the New Development Bank, the Junior Professional, Legal is expected to make significant contribution towards the Legal Department’s work, applying specialized skills and technical competencies gained through relevant education qualifications and professional experience, while gaining a broad overview of the NDB internal rules, procedures and operations. Under the leadership and guidance of the Director General and Legal Counsel and other experienced professionals in the Legal Department, who may be assigned as mentors, the Junior Professional, Legal will multitask and undertake “stretch assignments” while gaining valuable on-the-job experience. 

Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Provide assistance on legal matters in connection with the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, host country agreements, internal rules and procedures;
• Provide legal support and advice on corporate, institutional and administrative matters, including corporate procurement of goods, works and services, legal aspects of implementation of privileges and immunities of the Bank and its personnel accorded by the Bank’s Articles of Agreement and host country agreements, management of the Bank’s property, membership matters, human resources issues, information technology, etc., to ensure compliance with the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, relevant internal rules of the Bank and applicable laws;
• Stay abreast of relevant legislation, as well as relevant aspects of international law and anticipate and assess legal risks associated with the activities of the Bank and provide suggestions to the Director General and Legal Counsel and relevant teams, NDB organizational units to mitigate legal risks; 
• Review and/or draft, and/or provide assistance to other professionals of the Legal Department in review and/or drafting of, contracts for procurement by the Bank of goods, works and services and other legal documents related thereto, with a view to ensure their validity, legality and enforceability, compliance with the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, relevant internal rules of the Bank and applicable laws, provide suggestions for reasonable protection of the Bank’s interests and risk mitigation; 
• Review and/or draft, and/or provide assistance to other professionals of the Legal Department in review and/or drafting of, memoranda of understanding and other cooperation agreements with other organizations;
• Assist other experienced professionals of the Legal Department in review of drafts of internal rules of the Bank;
• Prepare reports, legal documents to support the Director General and Legal Counsel in defending the Bank in any legal proceedings; 
• Conduct research, gather factual and analytical information on legal issues and draft legal opinions;
• Prepare memoranda, draft and review legal documents pertaining to corporate, administrative and institutional matters;
• Take part in negotiations of corporate procurement contracts, cooperation agreements and other agreements in the relevant area;
• Other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time.

Position requirements

• As an entry level professional position, candidates with less than one year’s work experience, and fresh graduates who have obtained higher education degrees in law, as required by NDB, could also be considered. The relevant work experience excludes summer/winter jobs, internship, traineeship, articleship, etc.
• Experience in legal issues in an international organization or regulated private/public sector financial institution or a large corporate enterprise or leading law firm would be an advantage.
• Admission to practice law in at least one of the Bank’s member countries is essential.
• Candidates must possess a desire to work in a multi-cultural environment, have an interest in working in a multilateral development bank at the place of NDB Headquarters.
• Excellent research and analytical skills as well as proven written and oral communication skills in English. 
• Resourcefulness, problem solving, communication, conflict management and resolution and interpersonal skills with high resilience and drive in achieving objectives and goals. 
• Master’s Degree or equivalent in Law.
