Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Security Adviser (SA) and according to the SOP, the Radio Operator is responsible for monitoring UN activities and missions and providing relevant and accurate information to DSS related to security and operations security.

The Radio Operator promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with the rules and regulations of the Department of Safety and Security.

Execute activities designated by the Security Advisor and Field Security Associates (FSA). Maintain up to date all files that are generated in the AOP function.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains accurate records and adheres to established procedures,
  • Provides assistance to UN Unit personnel and records events accordingly,
  • Requests support from local authorities in the event of an incident,
  • Responds to telephone and radio calls,
  • Immediately reports any technical problems to the SA or FSA/FSCO,
  • Keeps daily mission log and chronological record of activity,
  • File documents and reports,
  • Monitors the local news network and informs the SA of any security related situation,
  • Prepares relevant news report and distributes to the SNU upon authorization,
  • Performs all other related duties as directed by the SA/FSCO/FSA,
  • Prepares reports as directed by the UNDSS,
  • Performs radio checks with base stations, Civil Protection and Police Forces,
  • Assists in monitoring the compliance of UN personnel. 
  • Performs other duties as directed by the UN.

Required Skills and Experience
 
Education:
  • Secondary education is required. University Degree in Technical Level in computer science, informatics or related fields. 
Experience:
  1. Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in information systems, computer or related field, with technical or higher education.
  2. Experience in Microsoft office packages is required.
  3. Experience in operations control rooms and monitoring in humanitarian field missions.
  4. Desirable experience in the security area of United Nations organizations, NGOs, private international organizations or embassies. 

Desirable experience in research and studies in the maps y geolocation designing.

Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
