In the Logistics department, the Field Support Unit (FSU) gives support to the logistics staff in the country programmes, which includes the support to construction activities, the management of vehicle fleets and complex equipment that are used in the country programmes to support our humanitarian medical operations.

The Energy Efficiency Specialist will integrate the Field Support Unit and will be a key member of MSF OCA environmental impact project team to help the development and implementation of a far-reaching program of work to assess and reduce our institutional environmental impact and carbon footprint.  

Our Logistics department is looking for a:

Energy Efficiency Specialist (Flying)

100% position, 70% in the country programmes

Main responsibilities

You provide hands-on and on-site specialized expertise and support to program country teams, by performing the following duties: 

  • Perform energy efficiency assessments, identifying areas of improvements

  • Propose technical solutions to reduce the consumption of energy, with a focus on the solutions needed to improve the energy efficiency of infrastructure (healthcare structures, warehouses, offices and houses) such as infrastructure insulation and electricity consumption reduction.

  • Plan technical interventions, which includes the technical feasibility, design of solutions adapted to the context and project planning

  • Accompany the procurement process toidentify the right partners and suppliers that will be engaged to provide and install solutions

  • Validate suppliers, services providers and products in program countries and regional hubs

  • Assist the field teams in the supervision of the installation and commissioning of the energy efficiency solutions

  • Prepare the teams to maintainthe solutions through on-the-job trainings

  • Draft report highlighting further improvements before leaving the country of program 

  • Support the projects finding local insulating material and solutions.

You also may be required to support program countries in setting-up technical services in the start-up of (medium/large scale) emergencies if this is required. You are working in countries of operation 70% of your time.

Candidate profile

  • At least 2 years of MSF experience is required

  • BSc/ MSc in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. electrical, electro-mechanical, HVAC engineer) or equipped with a comparable technical qualification. Any other technical degree or certification relevant to the role will be considered as a strong advantage.

  • Min 2 years’ experience in implementation of energy efficiency measures in buildings, which also includes planning, design, commissioning testing and operation.

  • Relevant specific experience for the role are desired:

  • Building Insulation techniques

  • Experience and/or knowledge HVAC systems and efficiency

  • energy efficiency/reduction measures

  • Experience with relevant software (e.g. AutoCAD) 

  • Experience working with sub-contractors and general contractors

  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and knowledge of project management (i.e. budgets, timelines, etc.)

A contract for 1 year with a renewal option (subject to satisfactory performance and funding continuity) based on a fulltime appointment (40 hours/week).
