Functional Responsibilities

Under the supervision and direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible to support efficient and effective delivery of engineering related work packages and products. In performing her/his work, the incumbent will promote a client, quality, and results-oriented approach, and will work closely with the Project team members and Support Services Team, as appropriate, to ensure consistent and efficient progress. 

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following activities: 

General assistance
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
  • Assist in the coordination and follow up with the contractors, partners, and stakeholders for the various activities related to mechanical components/sections of projects.
  • Contribute in development of  Terms of References for consultancy services for procurement of design, design review and supervision of works 
  • Contribute in revision and quality check of technical documents for heating upgrades (e.g. drawings, BOQs, technical specifications, standards and other mechanical design documents) prepared by contractors in terms of their accuracy and suitability to overall design requirements, and participate in proposing practical solutions.
  • Provide support in managing, planning and processing UNOPS IPMG design/or local peer review process(s).
Heating upgrade supervision
  • Support supervision of heating upgrade works and ensure work execution is maintained at the required level against project quality, time and cost targets, and as per the contractual provisions and design specifications for individual project sites. 
  • Report on eventual deviations and recommend remedial actions regarding potential delays and/or cost overruns. 
  • Provide inputs in the preparation of project/contracts related documentation for project sites such as periodic progress reports, site monitoring reports, site meeting minutes, engineer’s instructions and variation orders, contractor’s bills review reports, certifications, client hand-over documents and contracts close-out reports.
  • Assist in managing, planning and coordination of site activities in accordance with the drawings, specifications, and other mechanical design documents, including monitoring site safety and construction quality.
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) measures are implemented within site activities.
Procedures 
  • Provide support in development, update and implementation of project work plans for upgrade of heating systems.
  • Contribute to identification and assessment of risks and implement mitigation measures for upgrade of heating systems.
  • Produce site reports related to infrastructure activities for upgrade of heating systems.
  • Oversee site information reported in UNOPS Collect in relation to contractor’s work including information on workforce, labor, weather, HSSE, Risks and Issues, progress of work and any other related information.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate measurement of completed mechanical works for payments, keep appropriate records for all contracts.

Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required 
  • Specialization in Thermal Engineering will be considered an advantage
  • Master Degree in relevant discipline will be considered an advantage
Work Experience 
  • Two years of relevant progressive experience in mechanical engineering is required 
  • Relevant professional experience in thermal engineering connected to HVAC issues (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems will be considered an asset
  • Experience in using AutoCad is required.
  • Experience in working on public buildings’ heating systems will be considered an asset
Language Requirements
  • Fluency in English and Macedonian is required
  • Knowledge of Albanian would be an asset
