Organizational Context and Scope 

Under the overall supervision of Deputy Chief of Mission, the direct supervision of the Head-Migration Policy and Sustainable Development (MPSD), and in close collaboration with the programme colleagues, the Project Officer will be responsible for assessing, synthesizing and contributing to phases of MPSD unit project development and implementation, including providing administrative support for reporting and documentation requirements. 

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the collection and verification of documents and data used for the preparation of results-based project reporting and documentation to help support various reporting requirements and deadlines.
  2. In support of knowledge management, maintain accurate, updated, and pertinent records of all correspondence, reporting files, and related information.
  3. Draft portions of annual work plans and budgets, and compile general background information to support the development of new projects and programmatic interventions in line with emerging issues in close coordination with the Mission Support Unit.
  4. Under the guidance of project managers/component leads, monitor the implementation of specific phases of project interventions, describe progress of projects, investigate designated project activities and discuss findings with the supervisor to help minimize gaps and maximize effective utilization of project resources. 
  5. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or,
  • University degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in project development and reporting is desirable.

SKILLS

  • Excellent writing English writing skill;
  • In-depth knowledge of migration issues including the national context;
  • good understanding of key stakeholders and coordination dynamics; and,
  • Understanding of various IOM reporting tools and communication guidelines.

LANGUAGE

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, and Spanish) and/or Bangla is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, security clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
