Functional Responsibilities
As a co-lead of this work, it is important to strengthen Peru’s participation in international climate change fora, sharing and showing all the work achieved with a multi-stakeholder approach considering its particular vulnerability to climate change and its position as a high forest and low deforestation country.
Priority tasks will be identified by the FCLP Deputy Director - Policy, in coordination with the Peruvian Government.
Scope of Work
Under the direct supervision of the FCLP Deputy Director - Policy, the Project Support Senior Assistant (Country Senior Assistant) will:
Provide support to Peru as a member of FCLP, including:- Support Peru’s Sherpa to the FCLP
- Support the preparation of documents, presentations, analysis, and plans for Peru’s participation in FCLP ministerial meetings, and FCLP policy initiatives
- Support preparation of annual reports to the Government of Perú about its participation on FCLP
- Support Peru’s participation to the global south forum, focusing on the Amazon region
- Support the organization of meetings, dialogues, and events of the IPLC Action Area including Platform meetings.
- Invite Peru to be regularly part of internal coordination meetings with the FCLP Secretariat and IPLC co-lead governments.
A work plan will be developed based on the UNOPS PER cycle and serve as the overarching document to monitor progress and record performance.
Education/Experience/Language requirements

- Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and five (5) years of relevant experience are required.
- First-level university degree (undergraduate, bachelor, or equivalent), preferably in environment, policy, law, international relations, economics, or in a field related to the post description with one (1) year of relevant experience, will be considered an asset; OR
- An advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) preferably in environment, policy, law, international relations, economics, or in a field related to the post description with no relevant experience is desirable.
- Relevant experience is defined as professional experience working on forests and land-use, climate change, REDD+, Indigenous Peoples, and Local Communities rights.
- Experience working with government systems and understanding different dynamics in a diverse range of governments.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples, and local communities directly.
- Experience of working on forests, land-use, climate and nature finance issues is desirable.
- Experience and understanding of all aspects of UNFCCC climate COPs and other high-profile climate and nature processes.
- Fluency in English and Spanish (read, write, speak) is required.

It is required to regularly travel internationally and to work outside of typical work hours (i.e. early mornings and/or late evenings) when required to accommodate various time zones.
