Mission and objectives
UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP) derives its mandate from the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 33/147 of 20 December 1978. Called upon by United Nations Member States in that year, UNDP was requested “to improve the economic and social conditions of the Palestinian people by identifying their social and economic needs and by establishing concrete projects to that end”. UNDP/PAPP is a responsive development agency that works together with the Palestinian people to fulfil their aspiration for sustainable human development based on self-determination, equality and freedom.
Context
UNDP/PAPP is currently implementing the third Phase of a multi-year Rule of Law and Access to Justice programme in Gaza Strip and West Bank known as Sawasya III. It is a UNDP, UN Women and UNICEF
Joint Programme that aims at comprehensively promoting and advancing the rule of law, justice, security and human rights in the State of Palestine.
Sawasya III is a five-year joint programme (2024-2028) designed to reinforce equal access to justice for all Palestinians. The programme seeks to support the Palestinian government in establishing a
protective, inclusive, and responsive justice system that honors human rights and promotes gender equality. It is tailored to address the specific needs in various areas of the West Bank, including Area C
and East Jerusalem, Hebron 2, and the Gaza Strip.
The Field Assistant will support the effective implementation and monitoring of Sawasya Programme activities in collaboration with civil society partners in Gaza Strip. Under the supervision of UNDP’s
Programme Manager and the overall guidance of the Civil Society Organizations Coordinator and Administrative/Grants Officer.
