OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Havana Office and the supervision of the Education Project Officer, the consultant will work closely with the Education Sector. His/her role is essential to integrate and promote arts education in Cuban schools. This task is in line with the UNESCO Framework for Cultural and Arts Education developed in Abu Dhabi in February 2024 and the Global Education Goals (SDG 4).
The general objective of the consultancy is to lead a project that enhances the knowledge and stimulates the creative sensitivity and appreciation of students and teachers of Cuban schools, on the aesthetic and ethical practices of contemporary art; its relationship with other relevant issues of life; all this, through reflective, playful, empathetic and collaborative experiences.
This will involve direct collaboration with the UNESCO Havana Office for Cuba, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba, the schools that will be selected to carry out such project and other stakeholders to foster transformative education through art that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals. The role will focus on affirming arts education as a global good of humanity, understanding cultural diversity and achieving sustainable development and peace, crucial thematic areas for the future of education.

Key Responsibilities
- To develop the design, implementation and evaluation of the Cultural and Artistic Education Project in two ASPnet schools in Cuba.
- To communicate with MINED authorities, the coordination of redpEA and the schools in Havana and Santa Clara.
- To implement of all aspects related to the project (call for artists, design of the visual identity of the project, exchange with the artists about their proposals and beginning of work sessions with students and teachers in the schools, production and realization of the works, workshops and visits to the artists' studios during the realization process, preparation of the newspapers or magazines with the children, among others).
- Develop the assessment and evaluation of the results of the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master, Ph.D. or equivalent) in education, social sciences or other fields. A first-level university degree in education, social sciences or other closely related fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in arts and educational program management, with a strong background in culture education would be an asset.
Skills and competencies
- Ability to interact with a wide range of partners and government officials.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), including writing technical reports and memos.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to take initiative and provide quality and timely support and services.
- Flexibility to adjust work schedules and priorities
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience
- Experience working in the United Nations system or similar international organizations, especially in cultural and artistic education projects.
BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS
Salary and Compensation:
- The proposal needs to be up to USD 12,500 for the project period.
Mission Expenses:
- - An additional allocation of US$2,500 is provided for mission expenses. This fund is earmarked for travel to visit schools participating in the project.
