Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Deminer in Chernihiv.
About the job
- Deminer is appointed and dismissed by the order of the Head of Representative Office or an Authorized Representative.
- Direct supervisor: Demining Supervisor
- Deminer is guided in his/her work by this job description, standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP), and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC)
- Permit for independent work of Deminer is carried out after training and checking knowledge of the SOP.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Taking into account the specifics of work in the field of humanitarian demining, the general rules, methods and technologies by which humanitarian demining is carried out are described in detail in the SOP, according to which the deminer must:
- Know the meaning of the marking landmarks and warning signs used in the mine area, in the process of work correctly mark the boundaries of a safe and dangerous area in accordance with the requirements of the SOP.
- If violations are detected in the marking of the mine area, other discrepancies at his/her worksite or near it, report on this to the Team Lead – Demining and act according to his/her instructions.
- Know the safety measures when performing mine clearance works, strictly adhere to them during the process of work execution.
- Use personal protective equipment correctly, conduct the maintenance in time and keep it in proper condition.
- Know the rules of safe execution of work on searching, marking, excavation of explosive objects under different methods of demining, to report immediately to the head of the humanitarian demining group about all signs of explosive or suspicious items.
- During the work on a mine site, be careful and focused, and observe discipline.
- Keep order in the work area, to prevent clogging of passages, to bring out the cut vegetation in time and beyond the passage.
- Correctly use search tools, equipment and tools issued for work, know how to use them.
- Know the working time schedule and the signals that are set to notify the group, to start and finish work in time based on the signals of the head, not to leave without permission from the workstation.
- In case of delay or failure to work for various reasons notify the head on this in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the DRC Code of Conduct.
About you
- Education Degree: Secondary Education and Vocational Education or Secondary Education and Professional training in a relevant organization.
- Work experience: without work experience
- Language Skills: Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and intermediate level in English.
- Computer skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (with focus on Excel and Word).
