Mission and objectives
The Resident Coordinator’s Office supports the work of the UN Resident Coordinator and coordinates activities of the UN Country Team in its engagement with the Government as defined by the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
Context
The UN Resident Coordinator in Uganda is the representative of the UN Secretary-General and the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System in Uganda and oversees the development work and humanitarian response involving 29 UN Entities and about 3000 UN personnel based at different stations all over the country.
The United Nations Uganda Vision 2030 is ‘A Transformed inclusive Ugandan Society where People have Improved Quality of Life and Resilience for Sustainable Development. This vision is attained through implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2021-2025), in support of NDP III, focusing on three Strategic Priorities: 1) Transformative and Inclusive Governance, 2) Shared Prosperity in a Healthy Environment, and 3) Human Well-being and Resilience.
RCO supports the RC/UNCT within the context of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021 – 2025 including providing technical support, tracking and reporting progress, operations, advocacy, communications and information management to achieve agreed UNCT results annually, aimed at contributing to the achievement of national development priorities outlined in Uganda’s National Vision 2040, the third National Development Plan (NDP III), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Task description
The UN Youth Volunteer will contribute to the overall coordination efforts of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in support of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in coordinating the UN System in Uganda to ensure coherence, efficiency, and effectiveness in support to the Government and People of Uganda through implementing the UN Sustainable Development Coordination Framework 2021-2025.
Under the direct supervision of the Development Coordination Officer, Communications and Advocacy, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
1. Support Coordination:
• Support in arranging meetings of thematic and strategic outcome groups of the development and Humanitarian work United Nations system in Uganda and following up on implementation of actions.
• Provide coordination support in the development of analytical reviews and collaborative reports on poverty eradication and leave no one behind assessments for the UN Country Team.
• Support coordination to facilitate and engage in strategic and technical inputs into national and local processes for SDG prioritization, including through the engagement of national and local government actors as well as other State institutions.
2. Contribute to Partnership Relations:
• Support the RCOs efforts to engage with and maintain good working relation-ship with a wide range of partners include Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, youth, private sector, academia, and the media.
• Support in carrying out research about areas of interest in partners and preparing briefs for the RCO to inform engagement with the partners.
• Follow up internally within the UN system and externally with partners to con-tribute to ensuring that agreed actions are undertaken.
3. Support Communications and Advocacy:
• Contribute to implementing the Joint Communication and Advocacy Strategy for the UN Uganda 2021 – 2025.
• Support in drafting written communication including stories and articles for mainstream media and social media platforms, speeches and talking points for the UN Resident Coordinator.
• Assist in the editing and graphics design of publications, photography, and videography at events.
• Support in the monitoring mainstream and social media for issues of relevant to the UN system in Uganda including misinformation and contributing to formulating solutions and participating in taking action to address identified challenges.
• Contribute to knowledge management of the UN System in Uganda.
