Job Description

Duty Station of the Consultancy: Remote-based

Duration of Consultancy: 11 Months

Nature of the consultancy: Lead writer and editor of communications and reporting products under the Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) Project in Coastal West Africa.

Responsibilities

Project Context and Scope: 

CSSM is a multi-donor conflict stabilization program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. CSSM is implemented by IOM and aims to increase state presence and community resilience in remote areas of Benin, Ghana and Togo that are at risk of encroachment by violent extremist organizations.

Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing: Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM)

At the start of each month, the Consultant will agree with the Deputy Chief of Party (after consultation with the Regional Program Representatives) on the specific deliverables to be produced and submitted during the month, within the agreed maximum level of effort of 100 hours per month. 

  • Produce, review contributions to, edit and finalize regular reports, including monthly and quarterly reports, that capture program activities and contextual developments relevant for programming and/or policy considerations, enhancing in-house insights and perspectives from the ground with external research and analysis, where appropriate
  • Identify and propose ways to strengthen CSSM’s reports and knowledge products, for example staff coaching, written guidance or the development of templates to gather inputs
  • Contribute to other analytical learning pieces and communication products for CSSM audiences as agreed
  • Maintain a strong contextual understanding of local dynamics in focus areas, ensuring analysis accounts for the role of regional, national, and transnational actors competing for influence within communities

Qualifications

Education
  • University degree in a relevant field
Experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in communications and technical writing for conflict stabilization programs
  • Prior experience with USAID-funded small-grants programmes in complex environments, particularly programs funded by the Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) 
Skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work remotely in a diverse team 
  • Flexibility to travel to West Africa on request
Languages
  • Excellent written and spoken English

Notes

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable. Consultants engaged to work on a home-based consultancy who do not need to travel do not need to provide vaccination records, regardless of the length of the consultancy contract.
  3. IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
  4. IOM does not charge a fee at any stage of its recruitment process (application, interview, processing, training or other fee). IOM does not request any information related to bank accounts.
