ABOUT GCA

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization that works as a solutions broker to catalyze action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate resilient future. Adapting to impacts of climate change provides a “win-win” for health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security and economic growth. The work of GCA elevates the visibility and political importance of climate adaptation and facilitates solutions, such as smarter investments, new technologies and better planning to become more resilient to climate-related threats. GCA is a rapidly growing organization with offices in Abidjan, Beijing, Dhaka, Groningen, and Rotterdam.

PROFILE

Are you passionate about climate adaptation and policy analysis? GCA is looking for a motivated Intern to join our team and contribute to our mission of advancing climate resilience worldwide. As an intern, you will focus on climate adaptation policy measures, with a particular emphasis on projects in Africa and South Asia. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing a better understanding how climate adaptation policies are integrated into national strategies and public financial management, which policy measures have been effective, and how policy reforms need to be supported.

Your role will involve supporting GCA’s work, including GCA’s technical assistance to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) and contributing to activities under the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP). You will work alongside an experienced team and collaborate with international organizations, national governments, and Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to shape a climate-resilient future.

At GCA, we value diversity and inclusivity and provide a supportive and empowering work environment for all team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Intern – Climate Policy, you will:

·       Knowledge Development: support the identification, documentation, and collating of experiences in relation to policy reforms to build climate resilience in Africa and Asia.

·       Outcome documentation and impact assessment: support the documentation of the outcomes of policy reforms to accelerate and scale up climate adaptation. Identify and document, and assess methods to assess the impacts of policy reforms.

·       Communication: identify one or two successful cases of policy reforms that support the acceleration and scaling up of climate adaptation and develop a short paper and blog on the basis of these case  studies.

Given the complexity of the assignment a team of two interns will be working on this assignment.
