Job Purpose
The intern will be working in close coordination with the project team, as well as various partners and beneficiaries with the aim of supporting the project in background analysis and research related to renewable energy and energy efficiency systems for different types of facilities. Such systems are related to solar PV, solar thermal, biogas and various energy efficiency for industrial applications.
The energy research assistant intern will assist with activities focused on innovation in the energy sector and support the different stages of projects implementation including studies, assessments, and research on policies and programs that promote sustainable energy.
This will include following up on projects, database and website management, communication material, surveys follow up, workshop and webinar management.
The energy research assistant intern will be reporting to the project team (project engineer and project manager) in deliverables in the form of draft and final.
Under the general supervision of the sustainable energy project team, the energy research assistant intern will be required to:
- Assist in conducting site visits and data collection surveys, including follow-up on phone calls, drafting surveys, desk research, data analysis and database management.
- Research and identify possible Energy Efficiency Measures and Renewable Energy Measures and conduct market assessments.
- Assist the project team in monitoring implemented activities and related publications.
- Support in preparation of energy related presentations and technical documents.
- Support in conducting workshops, webinars, trainings related to capacity building and energy stakeholders.
- Research best practices and identifying opportunities to accelerate energy innovation.
- Assist in the maintenance and updating of website content and support on social media engagement.
- Support the project team in developing a detailed design and bidding documents for the proposed energy solutions.
- Support the team in developing content and communication material such as videos, newsletters, social media, and websites.
- Support with drafting concise and clear meeting minutes.
- Excellent communication skills, especially English and Arabic languages writing and editing.
- Highly motivated and skilled in problem solving.
- Resourceful, flexible, and able to work within deadlines.
- High sense of responsibility and organization.
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in Renewable Energy or related fields;
(b) Have recently graduated with a university degree (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
- Knowledge in renewable energy & energy efficiency measures desired.
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
- Experience (> 6 months) in energy is a plus.
- Proficient in software usage like Autocad, PV Syst, Helioscope, TSOL, Homer, Energy Plus, RETScreen is a plus.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
- Knowledge of French is a plus.
