Position Title: Manager, Innovative Partnerships and Development Finance, RMG

Purpose of the position: The manager plays a crucial role in coordinating and implementing Gavi's private sector strategies by managing Gavi’s private sector donors, innovative projects, and cross-secretariat strategic initiatives.
This position focuses on private sector partnerships and innovation.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children's lives and protecting people's health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than one billion children and the prevention of more than 15 million future deaths. 
Gavi is expanding and strengthening the development of innovative finance instruments and its collaboration with the private sector for the next strategic period (2026-2031). This includes scaling up engagement with private sector partners in priority markets and accelerating funding and operational partnerships. These efforts aim to achieve greater efficiencies and increased coverage and equity in Gavi-supported countries. The manager will contribute to these initiatives by leading cross-team projects, advising the Managing Director, and developing or managing private sector partnerships and the governance of the private sector and innovation team

THE ROLE
Private Sector Management, Engagement, and Governance:
  • Support the head of the private sector and innovation team in managing the relationships with private sector partners, ensuring effective collaboration and identifying new opportunities for engagement.
  • Support the head of the private sector and innovation team in developing and overseeing private sector engagement processes, ensuring that Gavi’s governance and due diligence procedures, including risk management and mitigation, are followed.
  • Coordinate the oversight of Gavi’s private sector reporting tools in collaboration with other teams, such as Finance and Communications, ensuring alignment and accuracy.
  • Lead or contribute to the development and/or management of specific private sector partnerships, addressing issues, providing client service, and identifying growth opportunities

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Private Sector oversight and governance: 

  • Lead the Gavi Due diligence process, ensuring all requests are appropriately assessed and classified to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
  • Manage the internal review governance committee for private sector engagement ensuring quality control, adherence to process and approval. 
  • Oversee the coordination of the allocated budget, performance monitoring and reporting. 
  • Data consolidation and overall point of contact and coordination for private sector governance across the secretariat. 

Partnerships management

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with key stakeholders. This includes identifying and securing new partnerships, negotiating agreements, and fostering long-term collaborations.
  • Act as the primary interface for day-to-day interaction between the Gavi Secretariat and the private sector partners, addressing issues, providing effective client service, and growth opportunities. 
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of operational projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the objectives set in partnership agreements.

Cross-team coordination

  • Facilitate collaboration between different teams and departments, ensuring alignment with overarching organisational goals.
  • Track progress on key projects and initiatives, providing regular updates and ensuring teams stay on target with deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation, including presentations and reports, is prepared and organised before meetings or decision-making sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic

  • ’Master’s degree or higher in development, economics, public health, international relations or related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic programs, analytics, managing partnerships and multi-stakeholder task forces is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience working in diverse, multi-partner environments; experience of working in both public and private sectors is an asset.

Skills/Competencies

  • Global understanding of key transformations impacting today’s business, industry and political environment; as well as good overview of development aid work and in particularly in global public health;
  • Excellent analytical and synthesising capabilities;
  • Excellent project management and prioritisation
  • Excellent communication skills and an outstanding commend of written and spoken English;
  • Experience of managing multiple projects within a fast-moving environment;
  • Experience of engaging with business executives, public figures and senior level stakeholders;
  • Entrepreneur spirit, problem-solving skills and result-orientated is a must;
  • Good understanding of Gavi and Gavi strategic objectives or capability and willingness to acquire this knowledge quickly;
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Good use of tact and discretion.

Languages

  • Written and spoken fluency in English;
  • French or another language (written and read) is an asset
