IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

1. General Background
(Brief description of the national, sector-specific or other relevant context in which the individual contractor will operate)

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has a mandate to provide international protection and search durable solutions for refugees and stateless individuals.

In Mexico, UNHCR works by providing technical advice on asylum matters and refugee status determination, along with their respective procedures. It also collaborates with relevant Mexican authorities to identify individuals with international protection needs, particularly focusing on the identification and protection of special groups such as unaccompanied or separated refugee children and adolescents, victims of human trafficking, and stateless persons.

In partnership with Mexican civil society organizations, UNHCR also supports the strengthening of mechanisms and initiatives that promote and facilitate the integration of refugees and stateless persons in Mexico.

2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Under the supervision of the Senior Registration Assistant, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), Junior Registration Assistant will:

• Carry-out intake and triage of cases arriving at UNHCR’s Registration Center.
• Manage the crowd inside and outside the Registration Center.
• Accompany cases to specific services to make sure they are in the correct waiting area and liaise with the security guards to maintain a dynamic and swift attention circuit within the registration center.
• Identify potential protection cases (people with specific needs) and refer to the supervisor to ensure timely attention is provided.
• Respond to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements.
• Conduct pre-registration interviews in accordance with local SOPs and registration standards, as required.
• Carry-out general administrative work: photocopies, printing, assembling documents, etc., as required.
• Collaborate with registration and protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of a good service in the Centre.
• Perform other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

• Weekly/Bi-Weekly analysis/discussion of cases.
• As an active UNHCR team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNHCR and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions.
• All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. In addition, staff members must discharge their responsibilities consistent with the core, functional, cross-functional, and managerial competencies and UNHCR’s core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.
• Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated, and documented in all activities throughout the assignment.

4. Qualifications and Experience

• Completed high school or its equivalent with certificate.

b. Work Experience
(List number of years and area of required work experience. Clearly distinguish between required experience and experience which could be an asset.)
     
• 0 years with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology or related fields.
• or 1 year of relevant experience with High School Diploma in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.   
• Previously experience working with refugees or displaced people is considered an asset.


Desirable
Experience in working with UNHCR ProGres software.
