About this position
We are looking for an influential, strategic and innovative Communications Consultant. As Communications Consultant, you will provide technical expertise to the team of the Climate Change Division on communication strategies for the dissemination, publication, and promotion of the Division’s activities. This objective is particularly crucial in a division where climate mainstreaming is its fundamental role.
You will work for the Climate Change Division (“CSD/CCS”), which is part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (“CSD”). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support: (i) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the actions and operations of the IDB group and (ii) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the regional countries of the IDB group through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels.
What you’ll do
- Work with the Communications Senior Associate, CSD front office, KIC, and key division staff to plan, design, and execute the external communications strategy of the climate change division.
- Provide communications support for the LAC Regional Climate Change Platform of Economy and Finance Ministries, working closely with the climate change and fiscal management division to ensure alignment and effective collaboration and visibility.
- Coordinate with communications senior associate and KIC the generation of online content (website, blogs, social media, and publications) to engage target audiences.
- Support teams to ensure application of policies and procedures regarding the publication of operational and non-operational documents in the IDB's external webpage.
- Contribute to the planning, coordination, and executions of events, such as UN Climate and Biodiversity Change Conferences, online webinars, regional policy dialogues, and other flagship events.
- Work with the communications senior associate, knowledge coordinator and sector economic advisor to ensure quality assurance of knowledge products and manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of print and electronic information for the division.
- Prepare and edit talking points, op-eds, and presentations; work in close liaison with the senior communications associate and KIC on the messaging and content of talking points for key presentations.
- Collaborate with all specialists in the division in the preparation and editing of communications products to ensure effectiveness and clarity of messages, delivery channels and brand consistency.
What you'll need
• Education: Master's degree or equivalent in the fields of Communications, Marketing or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
• Experience: At least 5years of progressive experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in communications, external affairs, or related fields, preferably in an international context.
• Languages:
- Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

• Consultant:
- International consultant: International consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 36 months).
