The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in 2016 and have since grown to 110 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and AAA-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Collaborating with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled and promotes regional connectivity.
Since its establishment, AIIB has been leveraging investments in water security to foster growth. The Bank has invested over USD 2 billion in projects to manage risks imposed by water-related hazards, including flooding and droughts. The cross-cutting feature of water, reflected in its nexus with food and energy security, makes investments in the sector a potent agent to push for comprehensive and distributed growth. Recognizing this potential, AIIB continuously engages its members to address their financing needs while strengthening its positions and impacts, built on its projects under implementation and preparation. The Intern is expected to contribute to this effort by providing support to relevant projects, including the implementation of ‘Indonesia – Strategic Irrigation Modernization and Urgent Rehabilitation Project,’ preparation of ‘Cambodia – Country Climate Resilient Irrigation, Flood, and Drought Mitigation Project,’ and identification of future investments.
Responsibilities:
The Intern will support the implementation and preparation of the above projects and the identification of future investments in water security. Activities included in the assignment will include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing implementation progress reports, monitoring and evaluation reports, and related reports to prepare AIIB’s Project Implementation Monitoring Reports,
- Reviewing reports (i.e., feasibility studies, engineering designs, frameworks, etc.) and conducting desk research to provide written input to project preparation,
- Engaging government officials and technical experts in discussions to support project implementation, preparation, and identification,
- Coordinating with line ministries and logistics service providers to organize investment scoping discussions and workshops.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program; specializing in water management, civil engineering, urban planning, environmental and development studies, or other related subjects,
- Academic or professional experience with issues related to water security, including their intersection with food and energy security,
- A team player with excellent communication skills,
- Candidates could submit a 500-word essay (optional, but not mandatory) on a practical strategy to leverage infrastructure investments toward water, food, and energy security in Asia,
- Fluent in oral and written in (a) English and (b) Bahasa Indonesia or Khmer (preferred, but not mandatory).
AIIB is committed to diversity, transparency and inclusion. We believe our strength comes from having a team with the right diverse skills, experiences and abilities selected through a merit-based competitive process. We actively encourage applications from people from both within and outside AIIB members, regardless of nationality, religion, gender, race, disability or sexual orientation.
