AIIB's Portfolio Management Department (PMD) is responsible for monitoring AIIB’s rapidly growing investment portfolio, which includes loans and equity investments with or without sovereign guarantees, and assisting management and project teams to ensure portfolio quality. PMD’s main functions include: (1) monitoring the entire Investment Operations portfolio and providing portfolio reports and data analytics; (2) managing the non-sovereign-backed financing (NSBF) assets that have been transferred to PMD; (3) coordinating the design and implementation of IT systems for Investment Operations (IO); and (4) providing Secretariat services to the Investment Committee.  

PMD is recruiting a Portfolio Associate – Data Analytics (Associate) for PMD’s Corporate Portfolio Monitoring and Data Analytics function (CPM). The Associate, reporting to a Portfolio Officer, will carry out analyses of investment operations-related data and systems assessing implementation readiness, disbursement, and project effectiveness to support the monitoring of the Bank’s growing investment portfolio. The provision of analysis and delivery of analytical outputs are critical to the effective management of Bank investments that support the attainment of development objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze financial and non-financial project and portfolio data and assess project and portfolio readiness, performance and effectiveness, and key issues affecting data quality and system/process alignment.
  • Conduct research on data management and analytics tools and/or systems to identify improvements supporting project and portfolio reporting.
  • Design and test investment operations (IO) management information systems modules and dashboards and other analytical outputs to effectively monitor investment origination and implementation.
  • Create effective presentations, reports, and dashboards for operational and senior audiences supporting Investment Operations decision-making and lesson-learning.
  • Collaborate with strategy, risk, investment clients and solutions teams and the IT department to gather requirements, prioritize demands, and ensure system and process alignment, ensuring reliability and data quality of IO-related systems and reports to effectively support data-driven insights. 
  • Deliver consultation and training on data analytics tools, client management systems, and other IO systems while gathering feedback to continuously refine and improve these systems.
  • Deliver project analyses and other analytical outputs in a timely manner that support the origination, execution, and closure of the Bank’s investment pipeline and portfolio.
  • Assess the effectiveness of department systems and processes in producing analyses, creating efficiencies, and reducing operational risks that sustain portfolio quality.
  • Carry out other duties that may be assigned by the PMD.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years general experience as a fully qualified professional in data science or business intelligence in a development finance or management consulting setting, or, 3-5 years general experience as a professional manager overseeing work in data science or business intelligence in a development finance or management consulting setting.
  • Basic knowledge of major infrastructure sectors, such as energy, transport, water, and/or urban development.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in data science, applied mathematics, economics, urban and regional planning, information systems, geospatial sciences, engineering, business administration, public policy, or similar field with a quantitative focus relevant to AIIB operations. 
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written, is essential.  Knowledge of a second language is desirable. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, ability to collaborate with others and present insights clearly, and excellent organizational and project management skills, are essential in the performance of this role. 
  • Experience with relational databases, dashboarding, and visualization tools, including Tableau, PowerBI, or similar, is essential. Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint with strong data wrangling and visualization capabilities are essential.  Proficiency in R, STATA, SQL, or Python is desirable.
