Job Summary 

The VITA tax program offers free tax preparation to individuals who meet the IRS annual income threshold. Housed within the Economic Empowerment (EE) department, the IRC in Richmond is piloting the VITA program in 2025 to provide more comprehensive services to clients and the community. The Site Coordinator is a short-term role for someone passionate about working with staff, volunteers, and organizations to help low- and moderate-income individuals learn about and get connect with the VITA tax program. The role also provides oversight of VITA programming, including volunteer recruitment and scheduling. The ideal candidate will work to enhance participant income and financial stability through partnership, program development, implementation, and communication about program successes. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Outreach and marketing to increase awareness of the tax program among potential participants.
  • Coordination with internal HQ team for smooth program delivery.
  • Work with the EE Supervisor in Richmond to monitor program outcomes and ensure compliance with IRS standards.
  • Identify and coordinate with volunteers to schedule tax preparation appointments.
  • Support volunteers as needed.
  • Align with all IRC policies, procedures and protocols including adherence to the IRC Way and Child Safeguarding.

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred.
  • Lived experience as refugee or immigrant. In lieu of lived experience, experience working with refugees and/or immigrants; cross-cultural or overseas experience accepted.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, bilingual ability preferred in Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French or other refugee/immigrant language used in Virginia. Cross-cultural understanding and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer proficiency with an emphasis on Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook). Proven experience in web-based data entry systems, with both data extraction and design preferred.
  • Highly organized self-starter with proven success prioritizing multiple tasks, making critical decisions, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • In accordance with Virginia State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.

Working Environment

  • Current hybrid work, primarily in person. standard office work environment combined with some travel throughout service delivery area.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
