The Scope
To ensure the operational and strategic planning, organization and coordination of the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of the FSC global normative framework in the area of Chain of Custody and Controlled Wood.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
To lead the Chain of Custody Programme Team, including staff supervision: 

  • To drive, coach, nurture and inspire the Team to achieve a high sense of belonging, trust and fulfilment, as well as enable team members to deliver a high level of performance.
  • To exercise the above leadership in the spirit of the FSC Leadership Principles.
  • To establish and implement effective and outcome-oriented work plans based on considerate annual budgets and in line with organizational strategies and priorities.
  • Exercise high quality project management in the Programme.
  • Ensure timely and quality delivery of all projects in the responsibility of the Programme within the planned budget.
  • Ensure full alignment and seamless collaboration with Programmes in Policy Alignment Department, including aligned leadership and supervision style.
To establish and implement effective and outcome-oriented work plans based on considerate annual budgets and in line with organizational strategies and priorities.

To plan, initiate, coordinate, oversee, and steer as necessary – based on applicable FSC rules and procedures -- processes for the development, maintenance, review, revision, and interpretation of:

  • Normative documents for certification and accreditation in the area of Chain of Custody.
  • Related communication, guidance, and training materials for users (certificate holders and certification bodies) and relevant stakeholders.
To work closely with the Senior Expert CoC in:

  • Streamlining the relevant normative documents and requirements through means of simplification, outcome orientation, and integration of risk-based approaches.
  • Identifying and evaluating innovative approaches for their potential of being adopted in the CoC normative framework through testing, desk reviews, and external studies.
  • Ensuring a high level of technical quality of normative documents and other publications.
To collaborate with Engagement team in the development and implementation of engagement plans for key processes.
To identify the need for, and ensure the implementation of, timely and adequate interventions to prevent delays and standstills in ongoing processes.
To coordinate and oversee the support for implementing relevant requirements by certificate holders and certification bodies.
To adhere to PSU operational procedures and follow established practices, such as agile work planning, reporting on office presence, etc.
To support fundraising and reporting to donors as applicable.
To perform additional project work and additional tasks as assigned for special business needs and agreed with the formal supervisor.
Your profile
Education and Training:
  • University / technical college degree in forestry / wood technology or other relevant areas or equivalent experience, knowledge, and skills. 
Leadership:
  • Demonstrated strategic abilities.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a people leadership position. 
Working Experience, Style and Skills:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following: forestry sector, multi-stakeholder standards development processes, certification, corporate environmental responsibility programs.
  • Excellent, documented project management skills (Agile project management experience is a plus).
  • Experience with multi-stakeholder engagements and multi-stakeholder communication processes.
  • Experience with financial administration/management.
  • Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of functions.
  • Solutions and service-oriented attitude to work.
  • Proven ability to plan and organize work.
  • A very strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
Digital Skills:
  • Good computer skills, including the use of standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database management platforms. 
Language and Communication Skills:
  • Fluency in English.
  • Spanish and French is a plus.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex topics to non-knowledgeable audience and contribution to cohesive team efforts and decision making.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
