INTRODUCTION
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. DRC Ethiopia began operations in 2009 and has been responding to the needs of refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host communities ever since. DRC Ethiopia currently has programs implemented through five area offices (AO) in Gambella, Tigray, Somali (Jijiga & Dollo Ado) and Afar regions, as well as its country office (CO) in Addis Ababa.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Under the supervision of the MQX area office Support Service Manager and OIC in Shire support in day-to-day routine financial duties, reviewing transactions and processing payments for the base office. S/he will provide financial support to DRC and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operational Handbook.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting:
- Assist in the preparation of payment requests and payments ensuring compliance with DRC’s Operational Handbook.
- Support in maintaining accurate and compliant financial records, both soft and hard copies, ensuring records are properly filed and labeled, and checking the completeness of financial documents.
- Perform coding and record cash transactions in the accounting system daily basis.
- Receive and track cash advances and settlements, ensuring that staff are compliant with regulations in place in DRC’s Operational Handbook
- Process withholding & Income taxes and Pension funds to the relevant Authorities.
- Handling the petty cash for the Shire program and operational expenses carefully and safely.
- Do necessary payments of invoices and suppliers based on DRC Finance systems and procedures.
- Prepare receipt, payment, and other vouchers as required upon approval.
- Keep office cash to its limit and make timely replenishment.
- Assist in undertaking monthly salary payments to Shire staff and remit taxes to the authorities.
- Handling cash using the Cash Advance system and making sure that cash advances will be closed by the end of the month.
- Handling cash using the Advance Clearance Form and ensuring all financial procedures are carefully followed.
- Collecting Bank statement information by the end of the month.
- Filing all financial documents and making sure that all financial documents are properly filed and organized according to DRC procedures.
Reporting
- Apply the basic accounting principles, knowledge, and techniques to analyze the variances, assist in the production of journals, and perform routine accounting activities.
- Provide support in preparing the financial reports in the accounting and finance system as per the instructions received from the Finance Officer/SSM.
- Maintain, update, and retrieve the financial information from the financial systems.

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably with NGOs for BA and 3 years relevant experience for Diploma holders.
- Experience using financial software applications and/or advanced computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations.
- Well-developed organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
- Proven commitment to accountability.
EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)
- Diploma, BA in accounting or relevant field from a recognized institution
LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)
- Proficiency in English, Tigrigna, and Amharic
