Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a highly-qualified Protection Assistant to join our team in Dnipro.

About the job

The Protection Assistant is part of the DRC Protection Team and works under the management, guidance and supervision of DRC’s Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager. The Protection Assistant supports the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager in timely and quality implementation of protection activities. This position is based in Dnipro with regular travel to field locations.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure efficient and effective program implementation in coordination with the Protection Manager, Protection Team Leader while adhering to the budget and work plan.
  • Assist the Protection Officer in implementing all protection activities, including working with local authorities, community-based initiatives, capacity building, and aiding conflict-affected populations.
  • Contribute to designing clear weekly and monthly plans for protection activities and regularly report to the Protection Manager and Protection Team Leader.
  • Manage individual cases, providing advice, guidance, and referrals to beneficiaries for accessing required services.
  • Conduct protection monitoring, data collection, and document the needs of persons of concern.
  • Participate in awareness-raising sessions, information campaigns, joint assessments, and identifying protection concerns.
  • Support mapping of services, develop effective referral pathways, and follow up on referrals.
  • Conduct interviews with beneficiaries, focus group discussions, key-informant interviews, and draft relevant reports.
  • Establish and maintain coordination with local authorities, NGOs, and represent projects in relevant meetings when requested.
  • Monitor financial commitments and expenditures, plan and coordinate logistics, and initiate and execute procurements.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 1 year of practical experience in sector area working for an NGO. Moreover, we expect the following:

  • University degree (e.g. social science, development, international relations, gender, law) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude and stress resilience.
  • Strong facilitation skills, building communication with local authorities.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
  • High professional ethics.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and good command of English – both oral and written.
