Mission and objectives

Since its inception in 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has been the global authority that sets the environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Context

The incumbent will be based at the UNEP Office in Abidjan and work under the supervision of the Regional Communications Officer. The role of the incumbent is that of an expert in translations from English to French and a digital specialist in both web and social media.

Task description

The incumbent will perform the following functions:
Web
• Ensures relevant content, such as stories, press releases, select speeches and publications, is translated from English to French and posted in a timely manner;
• Proofreads all content posted on the French language website;
• Coordinates review of existing French-language sections of UNEP website to determine need for revision;
• Updates content on UNEP French website.

Social Media
• Carries out social media strategy and execution plans for French-speaking audiences;
• Translates social media content from English to French, including videos and graphics;
• Maintains UNEP French language social media channels, posting relevant and timely content and engaging with French-speaking audiences;
• Promotes UNEP’s work and messages to French language stakeholders via support to communications and outreach activities;
• Reviews statistics and analytics and adjusts/adapts content strategy to maximize reach;

Support
• Support requests from Executive Director related to French-language audiences and her official travel.
• Stay abreast of rapidly changing technological advancements related to digital platforms and translation methods;
• Participates in other Communication Division activities (training, meetings, workshops);
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
