Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member (Mechanic/Operator) for its activities in Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv.
Selected candidates will first complete 21-days training from DRC Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding on how to operate and maintain the GCS 200 machine in Mykolaiv and upon successful completion, their final duty station will be assigned based on operational needs.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- To ensure the GCS 200 machine is in a serviceable and operational condition and ready for operation the next day at the end of each working day.
- To ensure all required necessary wear and tear spare parts and consumables are available in country.
- To ensure all the required necessary daily use hand tools and workshop tools are available in the mobile workshop container/vehicle mobile workshop at the site where the GCS 200 machine will be operational.
- To ensure correct and timely servicing/maintenance of the GCS 200 machine used in accordance with the original manufacturer specifications.
- To be responsible and initiate timely fault finding and rectification.
- To ensure that sufficient consumable material is available on the GCS 200 machine daily operations/work site.
- To be responsible for the timely record, report and document all faults/abnormalities on the GCS 200 machine to the Mechanical TA and OM.
- To be responsible for ensuring the workshop and all workshop tools and other related Mechanical Demining Team tools are always well arranged, cleaned and in good working condition.
- To be responsible for ensuring all Mechanical Demining Team documentation and paperwork is in order and correctly filled out e.g. daily/weekly/monthly log sheets, spare parts, fault reports, workshop contents.
- To be responsible for the timely request of all required spare wear and parts, consumables, and tools.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you at least 5 years’ practical working experience as light/heavy duty vehicle motor mechanic or a mechanic for other types of mechanical demining machinery or Earth-moving machinery e.g. Bulldozers, Front-end loaders, Excavators, Backhoe, Bobcat etc. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Knowledge and practical experience of electrics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Light/heavy duty verified and approved/permitted driving license.
- Verified training certificates of previous work experience and knowledge.
Desirable
- Technical high school or equivalent.
- Experience of working on a Humanitarian Mine Action Programme.
- Pre-intermediate level of English.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national contracts.
