Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member (Mechanical Operator) for its activities in Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv. 

Selected candidates will first complete 21-days training from DRC Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (HDP) on how to operate and maintain the GCS 200 machine in Mykolaiv and upon successful completion, their final duty station will be assigned based on operational needs.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • To conduct the scheduled daily maintenance on the GCS 200 machine.
  • Physically to check for abnormalities on the GCS 200 machine at the maintenance area.
  • To check the overall functionality on the GCS 200 machine designated test area daily before starting operations.
  • Should be required to assist/help the GCS 200 machine mechanic whenever the need arises during breakdowns or scheduled service and maintenance.
  • To ensure the daily log sheets/logbook are up to date and shall always be kept inside the GCS 200 workshop container/vehicle mobile workshop.
  • To be responsible when necessary to inform the Mechanical Technical Advisor on the GCS 200 machine capabilities regarding the terrain or other environmental changes/challenges to the GCS 200 machine e.g. soil condition, vegetation, and gradient.
  • Be ensure to adhere to minefield or hazardous area rules and regulations.
  • To operate safely the GCS 200 machine as per the manufacturer operation handbook, and according to the DRC HDP Ukraine GCS 200 SOP.
  • Be responsible for immediately informing/alerting or reporting to the MMC Team Leader and MDT Mechanic of any abnormalities to the performance of the GCS 200 machine.
  • To be required to maintain radio contact with the MMC Team Leader.

About you

To be successful in the role, we expect you to have at least 3 years’ practical working experience as a machine operator/mechanic for other types of mechanical demining machines or Earth-moving machinery and heavy-duty vehicles e.g. Bulldozers, Front-end loaders, Excavators, Backhoe, Bobcat etc. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • High school or equivalent desired
  • Verified training certificates of previous work experience and knowledge required.

Preferably

  • Heavy duty/light duty verified and approved driving license desired.
  • Heavy duty mechanic skills. 
  • Experience of working on a Humanitarian Mine Action Program.
  • Basic level of English.

We offer:

  • Contract length:Open-ended contract depending on performance and funding after successful completion of 3 months’ probation period.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts in Ukraine.
