POSITION SUMMARY

The Circular Economy Associate will assist in implementing projects related to the circular economy across key sectors in Indonesia, including plastics, electronics, and organics-based renewable energy such as biohydrogen. This position will support the development of circular economy initiatives, policy frameworks, technical analysis, and stakeholder engagement strategies with the Circular Economy Senior Associate to help establish circular supply chains in said sectors.

This position should have the knowledge to understand gaps and challenges in circular business model development and scale up, with experience in designing and/or executing proven concepts of circular economy projects. The Circular Economy Associate will be responsible for carrying out designated activities within both existing and future circular economy initiatives, with a particular focus on the Plastics Circular Investment Initiative project and Sustainable Biohydrogen Production and Application project.  The role of this position is to ensure process integrity in program operation and specific program output, fully meeting established institutional policies, standards across delivery processes, monitoring and reporting, and other operational functions of the Program outcomes.

The Circular Economy Associate will be required to engage and work with national and sub-national government counterparts in the circular economy sector, industry stakeholders, circular economy-focused CSOs, academicians, and development partners. The Associate will provide day-to-day administrative and technical support to the Project team as well as advisory to relevant government counterparts and other partners and stakeholders, ensure consistent quality delivery and provide a wide range of contributions in support of the delivery of components and workstreams. This position will report to the Circular Economy Senior Associate. On a day-to-day basis, s/he will be stationed at GGGI's Jakarta Office and should be willing to travel.

 

PURPOSE
  • Regularly conduct research and provide advisory support to the Project team regarding circular business model development, market research, industry trends, and policy and governance gaps and opportunities to enable circular economy transitions in key sectors, such as plastics, electronics, organics, and biohydrogen-based renewable energy.
  • Carry out technical assignments for specific project activities in accordance with his/her expertise and provide technical analytical input to support project output delivery.
  • Support policy development by analyzing regulatory gaps, drafting recommendations for enabling policies.
  • Provide support for robust project management and oversee the progress, verify compliance and monitor project implementation, identifying challenges with solutions as relevant.
  • Monitor and report on project and workstream activities to ensure efficiency and consistency with established work plans to support program management.
  • Support the monitoring of project budget to ensure that program resources are optimally allocated and utilized.
  • Organize and review data related to Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) metrics ensuring quality of information and conformity with established M&E procedures.
  • Support country level communications and outreach campaigns for the program.
  • Provide insights and technical advice to help ensure timely delivery of project outputs and project implementation.

 

ENGAGEMENT
  • Build and maintain relationships with government counterparts and connect key government actors with relevant sectoral stakeholders in the national and sub-national level.
  • Facilitate and nurture partnerships between businesses and government entities to promote circular economy transitions.
  • Support in strengthening the collaboration between GGGI and government and non-governmental institutions.
  • Support businesses and industry groups in improving their capacity to transition to circular business models.
  • Organize meetings, documentation, workshops, and other events with key stakeholders.
  • Identify concerns and hazards that will have an impact on program consistency and delivery.
  • Communicate programmed requirements to service providers/suppliers and ensure that services/products are supplied in accordance with established agreements.
  • Apply appropriate technical abilities to collect necessary information/knowledge from a range of sources.
  • Understand project methodologies and provide contributions in support of delivery of components/workstreams.
  • Monitor and update project compliance information.

  

DELIVERY
  • Execute operational and administrative services to ensure prompt, responsive, accountable, and high-quality support provided to the Project team.
  • Manage and maintain the documentation and databases, ensuring clear references are available for knowledge management purposes.
  • Ensure timely delivery of administration, logistics, procurement, and other operational aspects.
  • Organize meetings, documentation, workshops, and other events with key stakeholders.
  • Develop high-quality presentations and other information dissemination products.
  • Support in delivering monthly reports, quarterly reports, and annual reports.
  • Organize the delivery of circular economy workstreams within tight deadlines.
  • Ensure the principles of gender equality and social inclusion are effectively reflected in all activities.

 

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, industrial engineering, environmental economics, public policy, business studies, or other related fields.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience working in the area of sustainable development
  • Preferably possess a proven track record of working experience in circular economy initiatives.
  • Knowledge of various circular economy solutions and practices in Indonesia's context.
  • Familiarity with working with government agencies in Indonesia.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and working with inter-institutional programs.
  • Understanding of the socio-political and cultural contexts of Green Growth governance in Indonesia.
  • Excellent English and Indonesian oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The Circular Economy Associate is an X6 grade level in GGGI's National salary scale. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity.
  • GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.

  • The chosen candidate is expected to be based in Jakarta, Indonesia and will report directly to the Circular Economy Senior Associate (also based in Jakarta).
