Functional Responsibilities
As a cross-cutting service to the three initiatives referenced above, the Global Programme on Nature for Development requires research support on a continuous basis in order to ground the project’s activities scientifically, to complement program and project development, and to identify synergies with existing initiatives both internal and external to the UN system. The support needed also consists of support in ‘scanning the horizon’ for new initiatives and innovations in the sector, as well as assistance with special projects such as publications, communications, and research support to the Global Programme’s manager in her role advising UNDP senior management.
The ICT Specialist (Environmental E-Learning and Knowledge Management) will carry out the following tasks:

Create personalized learning pathways based on user progress, skills, and interests to optimize the learning experience.

Work closely with SMEs to ensure that e-learning courses reflect the most current research, policies, and practices related to environmental sustainability and nature-based solutions.

Integrate gamification features such as badges, leaderboards, and achievement systems to enhance learner engagement and motivation.

Ensure that all e-learning content is accessible to people with disabilities by incorporating features like subtitles, screen reader compatibility, and easy navigation.

Design and optimize e-learning courses for mobile devices to cater to learners in diverse contexts, including low-bandwidth environments.

Regularly engage learners to test new content, gather feedback, and refine the course structure to improve learning outcomes.

Track user participation levels and actively encourage engagement through discussion forums, live chats, and feedback sessions.

Design and implement onboarding modules to help new users navigate the platform and understand how to use the learning tools effectively.

Create a comprehensive knowledge base for the Learning for Nature community, including FAQs, tutorials, and troubleshooting guides.

Create an online repository for case studies, success stories, and lessons learned from e-learning participants and stakeholders.

Utilize data analytics tools to assess learner progress, engagement levels, and course effectiveness, and adjust content or delivery methods accordingly.

Facilitate the creation of peer learning networks within the community to share insights and best practices among learners.

Coordinate live webinars and interactive sessions with experts to provide in-depth knowledge and foster real-time discussions on key topics.

Carry out long-term evaluations of e-learning programs to assess their impact on behavior change, skills development, and policy implementation.

Regularly track and report on the impact of communication efforts, including engagement rates, learner progress, and social media reach.
The assignment is supervised by the Manager of the Global Programme on Nature for Development.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in IT, Arts, Environmental Management/Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Business and Management, Social Studies, Development, and/or other fields relevant for biodiversity planning and research around topics prioritized by the Global Programme on Nature for Development with five (5) years of relevant experience is required;
- A first level university degree (Bachelor's degree) preferably in IT, Arts, Environmental Management/Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Business and Management, Social Studies, Development, and/or other fields relevant for biodiversity planning and research around topics prioritized by the Global Programme on Nature for Development with seven (7) years of relevant experience is desirable.

Relevant experience is defined as experience in one of the following areas: development of online E-learning Courses/Material, Instructional or Graphic Design.

Fluency in English is required.

Fluency in a second official UN language is desired.
