Functional Responsibilities

As a cross-cutting service to the three initiatives referenced above, the Global Programme on Nature for Development requires continuous research support to ensure the scientific grounding of its activities, enhance program and project development, and identify synergies with existing initiatives both within and outside the UN system. Additionally, support is needed for ‘horizon scanning’ to identify emerging initiatives and innovations in the sector, as well as assistance with special projects such as publications, communications, and research support for the Global Programme’s manager in her advisory role to UNDP senior management. To further strengthen its digital presence and user engagement, the Programme also requires the expertise of an ICT Senior Officer – (Web Design and Usability) to enhance the functionality, accessibility, and overall user experience of its digital platforms, ensuring that information and resources are effectively communicated to a broad audience.

Overall duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assist in developing style guides and UI/UX design guidelines to ensure consistency across all web pages and digital assets.
  • Support user research efforts through surveys, interviews, and usability testing to better understand the needs and expectations of target audiences.
  • Work closely with developers to ensure that design concepts are technically feasible and optimized for performance across different devices and browsers.
  • Contribute to optimizing the website for mobile responsiveness, ensuring a seamless experience across various screen sizes and devices.
  • Analyze website usage data and user behavior to identify areas for improvement and provide data-driven recommendations for enhancements.
  • Support the integration of interactive features such as dashboards, data visualizations, and multimedia elements to enhance user engagement.
  • Ensure alignment with UN branding and communication guidelines while maintaining a unique and visually appealing identity for the partnership.
  • Provide guidance to content managers and administrators on how to maintain design consistency and usability best practices.
  • Assist in developing a feedback mechanism to collect ongoing input from users for continuous website improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of user personas and journey maps to guide design decisions and enhance the overall user experience.
  • Assist in creating interactive prototypes and conducting A/B testing to assess the effectiveness of different design elements and layouts.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity experts to ensure the website design aligns with security best practices and protects user data.
  • Assist in integrating search engine optimization (SEO) best practices into the website design to improve visibility and accessibility.
  • Ensure compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers and keyboard navigation to enhance accessibility for diverse users.
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of web analytics tools to track user engagement and inform future design improvements.
  • Explore the integration of AI-driven user assistance features such as chatbots or personalized content recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with international web standards such as GDPR for data privacy and WCAG for accessibility.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops or training sessions to gather input and align design objectives with project goals.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in computer science, information technology, digital media design, international relations, development economics, or in a field related to the post description with two (2) years of relevant experience is required; OR
  • A first level university degree (Bachelor's degree) preferably in computer science, information technology, digital media design, international relations, development economics, or in a field related to the post description with four (4) years of relevant experience is desirable.
Work experience (required)
  • Relevant experience is defined as professional experience in website or content development, design.


Languages
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in other UN languages is desirable.
