The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Africa supports the country in achieving sustainable development goals aligned with the National Development Plan. Visual design and digital communications play a crucial role in enhancing UNDP’s storytelling and increasing its reach to diverse stakeholders.
To strengthen its communication efforts, UNDP South Africa seeks an Audio-Visual Producer Intern to create and produce dynamic multimedia content, ensuring the organization’s messages resonate with diverse audiences.
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Analyst and overall guidance of the Resident Representative, the intern will per form the following functions:
Audio-Visual Content Creation
- Produce high-quality video content to document UNDP projects, initiatives, and events.
- Edit raw footage into compelling stories for use on social media, the website, and other communication platforms.
- Create short animations or motion graphics to enhance video outputs.
Photography
- Capture professional-quality photographs during UNDP events and activities for use in reports, campaigns, and social media.
- Edit and organize images for effective storytelling and brand alignment.
Content Support for Social Media and Digital Platforms
- Provide multimedia support for social media campaigns, including video clips, audio content, and visual enhancements.
- Collaborate with the communications team to create audio-visual elements that align with digital campaign objectives.
Podcasts and Sound-Based Products
- Plan, produce, and edit podcasts to feature interviews, stories, and discussions on UNDP projects and initiatives.
- Create audio content for campaigns and events, including voiceovers, soundscapes, and other sound-based elements.
- Ensure high-quality audio production, including sound editing, mixing, and mastering.
- Collaborate with the communications team to integrate podcasts and sound-based products into broader campaign strategies.
Administrative and Asset Management
- Maintain an organized library of audio-visual assets, including videos, photographs, and templates.
- Assist with procurement processes for external video production services and multimedia equipment.
Learning and Development
- Develop an understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNDP’s mission.
- Share knowledge of audio-visual production techniques with the team.
Core Competencies
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of motion graphics tools like After Effects is an advantage.
Functional Competencies
- Strong technical skills in photography and video production.
- Creativity in visual storytelling and multimedia content creation.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends in digital communication.

Enthusiasm for innovation and problem-solving.
- Be currently enrolled in or have graduated with a degree in Film Production, Mass Media Studies, Digital Communications, Broadcast Journalism, or related fields.
- Prior experience in video production, editing, or photography is mandatory.
Internship Conditions
- Duration 6 months with no possibility of extension.
- Interns will receive a monthly stipend.
- Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship.
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship.
- The intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan or a public health clinic card/certificate.
- The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
