JOB TITLE: Communications Officer

DURATION : 11 months
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) works to save and change lives in Chad by delivering emergency food and nutrition assistance and supporting communities and governments to build resilience and livelihoods, improve food systems, nutrition and strengthen social protection systems.
The Communications Unit of the Chad Country Office (CO) is implementing specific communications and/or advocacy plans, particularly coordinating and managing multimedia and digital content production and deliberate media engagement from WFP Chad to advance engagement with partners and create a favorable environment for fundraising as well as political support and involvement.
The job holder will report to the Head of Communications, to support the CO communications activities which serve WFP needs in the CO, taking into consideration the overall country communications plan and WFP's corporate communications goals. Under the supervision of the head of unit, the consultant will focus on the following:
- Support the unit work plan which implements the corporate communications strategy, to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, and support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with the WFP strategy.
- Provide support for communications campaigns that favorably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities.
- Draft communications products that effectively convey the desired message to targeted audience(s).
- Support the maintenance of a contact list of journalists and media outlets and manage the regular flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed.
- Provide support for the social media plan which leverages social media content, platforms, networks, and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
- Support the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos, and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, to support global and country fundraising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
- Track and support the analysis of traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities.
- Provide support to the capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of external relations communication, providing advice, guidance, and training to ensure consistent, quality communications activities that deliver the desired impact.
- Work in close collaboration with WFP staff and other counterparts to help align activities and ensure a coherent approach to communications within WFP.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
• Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience:
• At least three years of postgraduate professional experience in journalism, media, communications.
• Experience in humanitarian assistance and/or development programmes and a mix of field, Regional Bureau or headquarters postings are advantageous
Knowledge & Skills:
• Keen knowledge of storytelling and understanding of diverse audiences and approaches to reaching them
• Demonstrated experience in developing original stories, short form videoclips and multimedia products that are shared through social media.
• Ability to operate latest equipment to deliver photographs and multimedia content according to the specified quality and technical requirements.
• Experience in utilizing the latest technology cameras and visual equipment.
• Proven skills operating video production and editing equipment.
Languages:
• Fluency (level C) in both English and French language.
