Iron Sharpens Iron Mentoring Inc. (ISIM) is a 501(c) 3 organization established to encourage self sufficiency among disadvantaged youth ages 9 through 18 living in underserved communities in Southern Nevada.
Our non-profit organization is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Male Peer Mentor supporting our boys' mentoring program. As a Peer Mentor, you will work directly with young people and provide them with guidance, support, and positive role modeling. This position is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the youth in our community.
Responsibilities:
- Establish positive and supportive relationships with assigned mentees.
- Be a positive role model and offer guidance and support to mentees.
- Assist in the development and implementation of mentoring activities and programs.
- Maintain regular communication with mentees, parents, and agency staff.
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for mentees to express themselves and seek guidance.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities provided by the agency.
- Keep accurate records and documentation of mentoring activities and progress.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience working with young people, such as volunteering, coaching, or mentoring.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish rapport with young people and build trust.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude are essential traits.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of mentees and the agency are essential.
- Assist in data entry, record-keeping, enrollment, and maintaining attendance database.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural competency.
- Knowledge of mentoring best practices and youth development principles.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills (English and Spanish).
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 27 per week
