Context

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international com- munity for action. This assignment is located in the UNEP’s Corporate Services Division (CSD), at the Nairobi duty station. The Enterprise Solutions Section in CSD is mandated to enable efficient pro- gramme delivery through the use of ICT and emerging technology standards, solution and overall busi- ness process automation supporting the organization’s programme of work. It undertakes a wide range of services, activities, and projects. It works closely with clients throughout the project life cycle to tailor the services to their needs ensuring that the solution meets the required objectives from a specification, resource, and time perspective. The Section is currently involved in the strategy, planning and implementation of workflow automation and service request tracking.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of an Officer in the Section and in close engagement with the UNEP business process owners, the National Specialist Volunteer will be part of a team to design, de- velop and implement various workflow automation and service request tracking systems. The specific tasks of the International Volunteer include the following:
UNEA Monitoring and Reporting Portal
• Assist with the revamp of the UNEA Monitoring Portal under new design and platform
• Assist with the development of new features to continuously improve functionalities of the UNEA Monitoring and reporting portal based on business input
• Support the timely recording of user analytics days in relation to usage, downloads, etc.
• Maintenance of portal integration log-in feature (implementation of AzureAD) for Member State and designated representatives from UNEP accredited stakeholders, including screen- ing, approval and creation of profiles.
• Implement new data analytics dashboards covering reporting, linkage to projects, resources, document management and closures in UNEA monitoring and reporting portal.
• Maintenance and update of reference data from the Enterprise Data Platform.
• Maintenance of role functions for key portal users such as administrators, reporters, review- ers and report submitters.
• Provide overall web application administration and maintenance related to software up- dates, security integrity, troubleshooting etc.
• Provide support on the current system during the transition to a revamped version Open Data
• Support data analysis and creation of relevant dashboards with respect to integration with other systems data through the Enterprise Data Platform.
• Enhance functionalities on Open Data including maintenance aspects and agile updates per agreed requirements.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading rele- vant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD).
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host coun- try.
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participa- tion in ongoing reflection activities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/web- sites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local in- dividuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Output:
As an active UN Environment Programme team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNEP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including the following outputs:
• The new features and improvements of the UNEA Monitoring and reporting portal are managed, de- bugged and maintained to ensure proper functionality for end-users.
• Member states integrated log in protocol is routinely tested, issues addressed and documented.
• New reporting dashboards are incorporated and maintained for end-users, according to established UN standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools.
• Provide necessary database information in a timely, structured and accurate manner.
• Contribution to work on integration, maintenance and support to UNEA and Open Data Portal.
