Mission and objectives
The Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) is mandated to reduce human and material losses due to natural hazards and contribute to the effective design, investment and implementation of disaster risk reduction and resilience policies.
APDIM serves as an information and knowledge repository to support the Governments and other stakeholders in the region to develop their capacities as well as to facilitate regional cooperation on transboundary hazards in the Asia-Pacific region.
APDIM’s vision is: “Effective disaster risk information is produced and used for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific”. We work with partners to reduce human and material losses due to natural hazards and contribute to the efficient design, investment and implementation of disaster risk reduction and resilience policies.

Context
The role will contribute to the effective implementation of disaster information management initiatives in alignment with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Responsibilities include supporting the development, coordination, and monitoring of projects focused on multi-hazard information systems and disaster risk reduction. Key tasks involve providing support in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to aid research efforts, drafting
sections of technical reports, and assisting in the preparation of background materials for program activities.
The role also involves providing operational and logistical support for meetings, workshops, and field missions, ensuring their successful execution. Additional responsibilities include assisting with tracking and evaluating program progress, maintaining organized documentation, and contributing to the development of policy recommendations and capacitybuilding initiatives. The role may also include performing various other duties aligned with the organization's mission and objectives in disaster risk reduction and multi-hazard information management. By contributing to a wide range of technical and operational efforts, the role plays a crucial part in advancing resilience and sustainable development in the region.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (first reporting officer), with the second reporting to the Senior Coordinator, and under the overall supervision of the Director of APDIM, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the implementation of the ESCAP Regional Plan of Action on Sand and Dust Storms in Asia and the Pacific.
• Serving as the focal point for activities related to the UN Coalition on combating Sand and Dust Storms, supporting the Director in her role as the co-Chair of the Coalition in 2025-2026
• Facilitate capacity-building workshops and training sessions on multi-hazard information management, risk-informed development planning, and transboundary hazard risk analysis.
• Actively participate in awareness campaigns aimed at educating stakeholders on disaster risk management, SDS action plans, and the significance of regional collaboration for disaster resilience.
• Provide programmatic, administrative, logistical, and substantive support for the organization of meetings, conferences, and events related to disaster risk reduction and multi-hazard information management.
• Assist in projects related to impact-based forecasting, hazard risk assessment, early warning systems, data governance, policy design and the integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) into national development plans.
• Draft background papers, analytical notes, and report sections focusing on topics such as SDS forecasting, DRR integration into development plans, and risk data governance. • Perform other duties as required to advance the organization’s mission in disaster risk reduction and multi-hazard information management.
