Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Policy, Program and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) provides global support to UN Women offices at Headquarters and in all field locations to deliver results in support of UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and internationally agreed goals on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, including the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Division provides intellectual and strategic leadership on normative support and the delivery of integrated policy advice, including through policy analysis and support to gender mainstreaming. The Division leverages innovation, knowledge management, and cutting-edge technical expertise to support UN Women programs and to build the capacity of partners to deliver results on gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls. PPID houses UN Women’s sport partnerships at UN Women HQ, where sport is being explored as a tool to accelerate progress in achieving the 2020 Agenda and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. 

Under the supervision of the Policy Advisor, Sport Partnerships, the intern will support the implementation of UN Women’s sport strategy. The UN Women Sport Strategy aims to harness sport as a tool for achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls. Aligned with UN Women’s four thematic areas, the strategy emphasizes advocacy, partnerships, and evidence-building to promote gender equality both in and through sport. 

Description of Responsibilities 

Monitor and analyze global trends and developments in gender equality and sports to inform UN Women's sport initiatives. 
Assist in developing comprehensive briefing materials and presentations to effectively communicate UN Women's sport partnership strategies to internal and external stakeholders. 
Support the conceptualization of the Global Sport Impact Network by mapping relevant partners and connecting with sports outside our current that have strong youth engagement (e.g. Martial arts, urban sport, virtual sports etc)  
Assist in organizing events, workshops, and meetings with partners and stakeholders to advance the agenda of women and girls in sports. 
Support resource mobilization efforts including identifying potential donors and support in drafting fundraising proposals  

Learning Objectives: 

The internship offers the intern the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UN Women’s work. They will gain hands-on experience in strategic project management and improve their written and oral communication skills. Additionally, the intern will strengthen coordination and stakeholder collaboration skills by assisting in organizing high-level meetings, events and workshops. This experience will complement their studies and provide a valuable work experience that will increase their opportunities for a successful career in internal development.
