Functional Responsibilities
*** Even though the duty station is indicated as New York, USA, consideration may be given to allow the position to be home-based, depending on the incumbent's personal situation.
The Information Management Systems (IMS) Associate will be based in Maiduguri in the UNMAS office situated in a UN compound and will work under the direct supervision of the Programme and Communication Officer of UNMAS Nigeria. The Information Management Systems Associate will coordinate the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) for UNMAS Nigeria, and be responsible for all assigned tasks as follows: IM Responsibilities: -
Ensure proper functioning of the IMSMA database by installing and maintaining the IMSMA database for the UNMAS office -
Install IMSMA on partners' devices and train them on its use -
Ensure the accuracy and operational functioning of the designed links of the database -
Train junior staff on IMSMA and provide remote support to new UNMAS programmes -
Verify and record all field data from implementers and partners into the IMSMA database. -
Perform quality assurance on reported data before data entry. -
Carry out quality checks during and after data entry. -
Produce statistics and reports from the Mine Action data. -
Create and maintain a comprehensive soft and hard archive system. -
Update both soft and hard archives on a weekly basis. -
Create and maintain the file and document management system of the programme -
Create Standard Operating Procedures on all IM processes -
Engage with Mine Action partners to obtain information and improve their data-collecting forms -
Liaise with partners and represent UNMAS Nigeria in meetings related to the functions -
Make recommendations and provide advice on the technical information management requirements -
Review and improve data collecting forms when necessary -
Conduct monthly checks of IMSMA reports to ensure completeness, integrity and quality GIS Responsibilities: Other Responsibilities: -
Assist with IT and other general computer related issues. -
Contribute to Network Administration -
Assist with Database training and technical assistance to implementing partners and external stakeholders where necessary -
Create photo catalogue from received photos from mine action activities -

Education/Experience/Language requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience or secondary education (or equivalent) with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.

Relevant experience is defined as experience in information management, database management, data collection and GIS.

1 year of experience in Database management and GIS is required

Knowledge of IMSMA NG6 is desired

Experience with handling confidential data and demonstrated understanding of different data collection methodologies

Experience in web design and software development is desired

Fluency in written and oral English is required

Experience working with the UN or a humanitarian entity is desired

Ability to work in a multi-national / cultural environment is desired
