About us

Colored Qollective is a foundation by and for racialised, ethnicised, and migrantised LGBTQIA+ people. We are committed to the fostering of community and safe spaces – for us, of us, by us. We seek to foster these spaces where our peoples can find safety, support, strength, care, and love, and at the same time amplify our voices to advocate for the rights of our peoples, in particular the rights of those facing injustices, marginalised, illegalised, or forced to flee. You can read more about us here.

The Colored Qollective Core Team consists of the board, our contractors and employees, and our volunteers that are part of our various teams and working groups. Everyone at Colored Qollective is a part of the racialised queer community, and we work together to foster a community for and by us. You can get to know our Core Team here.

Vacancy: Allround Content Creative (6 hours/week)

What the work encompasses

Do you want to join a community by and for LGBTQIA+ racialised people and help work towards amplifying the voices within our community and making our efforts heard and seen? Do you have ideas on how to make our communities and issues visible and to bring our socials to life?

Colored Qollective is looking for a freelancer to join the Colored Qollective Core Team as our allround content creative. Your work will consist primarily of two parts: (1) drafting the visual identity of Colored Qollective in the onset of your role; (2) content creation and social media management in the long-run. With your creativity and efforts, you can make a difference, help our community grow, make our concerns loud and clear, and give new life to the socials of a young and passionate foundation!

Our main working language is in English, while some of our external communications and partnerships are (exclusively) in Dutch.

What your responsibilities and tasks are

(1) Drafting the visual identity of Colored Qollective

We hope to implement a coherent visual identity. This process will start with the drafting of a ‘house style’ which incorporates the new Colored Qollective logo (as seen in the header of this vacancy) and identifying, for example,

  • A colour palette;
  • (Header and body) fonts;
  • Templates for documents;
  • Templates/guidelines for social media posts, flyers, and other (printed) material.

You will oversee the creation of this visual identity, possibly with the input of a working group set up to readily get thoughts and ideas from the broader Core Team.

(2) Content creation and social media management

One of your key responsibilities is developing content (e.g. digital material like posts, videos, and articles; printed material like posters and flyers) that clearly and appealingly convey our vision, mission, action, and values. Alongside this, you will manage our socials and have access to post on our website.

Your tasks concretely include, amongst others:

  • Conceiving, with the input of members of the Core Team and board, a social media strategy.
  • Creating content for our Instagram and website. This may include both posts regarding our initiatives and substantive posts on various issues. You have the creative freedom for pitching and conceiving new and creative concepts and ideas and creating relevant and engaging material.
  • Following and anticipating current events and developments within our foundation and circles and in our current political climate to be able to quickly pitch appropriate responses.
  • Identifying, following, and anticipating social media trends.

What we expect from you

  • Involvement in and/or affinity with LGBTQIA+ racialised communities.
  • Culturally sensitive, with an approach fundamentally rooted in principles of decoloniality, inclusivity, and intersectionality.
  • Familiarity with grassroots organisational structures.
  • Proactive and flexible working style.
  • Communicative and able to be assertive and critical whilst receptive and open to the feedback and thoughts of others.
  • Coordination skills and able to work independently as well as in a team or with discussion and liaison with others. You will need to communicate effectively with our various teams and the board to keep track of upcoming initiatives.
  • You write and speak English. Dutch is a plus.

  • Affinity for visuals and design.
  • Creative and willing to take initiative to come up with new ideas and concepts, to make them concrete, and with the flexibility to adapt them to different tones, situations, and sensitivities where necessary.
  • Following and aware of current affairs, as well as sensitivities necessary for our communities and foundation within the current political climate.
  • Knowledge of the latest social media trends and what works.
  • Experience with graphic design and familiarity with editing programs for content creation.
  • Experience with preparing, capturing, and editing photos and videos of events with a smartphone and/or professional camera is a plus, but is not needed.

What we have to offer

  • A salary of €50/hour for 6 hours/week.
  • A flexible work arrangement within agreed upon timelines and deadlines.
  • A fun, young, and dynamic work environment and community for and by LGBTQIA+ racialised people.
  • The flexibility to carry out your creative ideas and vision and experiment with different concepts and formats, whilst contributing to the development of a passionate and young foundation and community.
  • Reimbursement of (travel and other) expenses.

Selection procedure

The selection team consists of our Safe(r) Space coordinator Lu, current co-treasurer Anh, and the co-chairs Srish and Tuyet. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview based on their CV, motivation, and affinity with our objectives, vision and the expectations outlined above.
