This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to IMO’s technical cooperation work and, through the IMO GHG Projects Portfolio, support developing countries in their efforts to reduce air pollution and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from ships. The IMO GHG Projects Portfolio includes a variety of technical cooperation initiatives which aim to support implementation of the IMO GHG Strategy (Resolution MEPC.377(80)) and resolution MEPC.323(74) encouraging voluntary cooperation between the ship and port sectors.
This role aims to establish media and communications, stakeholder engagement support for the IMO GHG Projects Portfolio. This support includes tasks such as regular website updates, handling the development and drafting of communications materials, web editing, providing digital media support, media liaison and promoting events and publications, in coordination with the IMO Outreach and Communications Office, and other IMO projects / Technical Cooperation initiatives. The incumbent will attend both regular GHG projects and Outreach Communication Office coordination meetings, will make sure all media and communication items of the GHG projects portfolio is coordinated both between projects and with overall IMO GHG messaging (and as such key media items to be cleared both by head of projects and head of communications office).
Incumbent will also need to find opportunities to reach broader audiences, to amplify messages, build relationships and engage with the audiences in innovative ways. The duties are expected to include the following:
1. Coordination of graphic design services. This will, inter alia, include:
(a) Coordinating the production of simple outputs, such as: newsletters, digital visuals for day-to-day social media (including GIFs), web assets (icons, images, banners, etc.), factsheets, leaflets, brochures, posters, PowerPoint presentations, simple pull-up banners, simple infographics.
2. Content creation, scheduling, web editing and channel management. This will, inter alia, include:
(a) Drafting relevant updates, press releases and news items (i.e. to be passed for approval for use under What’s New/press briefings on the IMO website) and coordinate closely with the Outreach and Communications Office to align with other communications priorities
(b) Manage and update the various IMO GHG Projects Portfolio websites, including drafting and developing new content as appropriate.
(c) Drafting articles/responses for interviews with key maritime journalists, national maritime media and mainstream media o following liaison with the IMO Outreach and Communications Office (OCO).
(d) Developing and reviewing draft content for infographics, brochures and other outreach materials; manage stock of photos from IMO GHG Projects Portfolio.
(e) Creating draft proposals and briefs for graphics content which can be used for visibility and communication purposes; develop and keep up to date a slide deck related to IMO GHG Projects Portfolio and its activities.
(f) Preparing content following relevant IMO meetings and international events (e.g. international days, MEPC etc.).
(g) Tracking and analysing social media metrics to assess performance of content and use insights to make recommendations for improvement in engagement and reach.
(h) Work to develop an IMO GHG Projects Portfolio online community.
3. Enhance stakeholder engagement and existing partnerships to maximise outreach and visibility for IMO GHG Projects Portfolio. This will, inter alia, include:
(a) Liaise regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including those located in partnering countries to increase engagement and awareness of IMO GHG Projects Portfolio and its activities.
(b) Develop outreach materials to showcase and highlight the work of IMO GHG Projects Portfolio, which can promote and stimulate new partnership opportunities.
(c) Continually explore and develop innovative avenues of engagement, and strengthen existing stakeholder partnerships to secure support, commitment and mobilization of resources.
4. Other communication and visibility/stakeholder outreach assets in line with communication and outreach related strategy of the Organization and the IMO GHG Projects Portfolio. This will, inter alia, include the development of plans for short-term publicity campaigns for the dissemination and promotion of outputs (e.g. event, guides, tools, activities).
5. Provide additional communications support or undertake other related tasks as needed to further the objectives of the IMO GHG Projects Portfolio.
