  1. Conduct Monitoring and Analysis
  • Monitor inter-agency processes of relevance to UNOPS, with a focus on the UN development system and its repositioning efforts, and follow relevant intergovernmental meetings, consultations and negotiations of UN main bodies, including the General Assembly and ECOSOC as required.

  • Report back as necessary and provide timely information on issues of importance to UNOPS, including through the preparation of minutes, key highlights and action points for follow-up.

  • Regularly monitor UN entities’ perspectives and Member States’ positions, and provide updates on key developments and emerging trends.

  • Conduct strategic analysis on priority issues to help with the identification of opportunities, risks and the potential impact on the organization.

  • Undertake background research and assist with data collection as necessary.

        2. Facilitate Corporate Engagement in Inter-Agency Mechanisms and Processes
  • Assist with facilitating the involvement of relevant groups and units at Headquarters as well as regional and country offices in critical UN system processes and activities, in particular on UN development system matters and UN system-wide initiatives.

  • Support preparations of UNOPS’ engagement in high-level inter-agency fora as well as working-level meetings, and provide administrative and logistical support to relevant internal stakeholders when required.

  • Contribute as appropriate to the elaboration of UNOPS’ positions in inter-agency matters.

  • Help facilitate effective information exchange between relevant internal stakeholders to ensure aligned and coherent interactions with the UN system.

  • Assist in keeping track of progress on the implementation of the UN development system repositioning, and help monitor compliance and internal capacity.

  • Support inter-agency collaboration, and establish and maintain effective relationships at the working level with diverse stakeholders to help position the organization in UN system-wide processes and initiatives.

  • Participate in inter-agency meetings at the working level as assigned.

       3. Contribute to Reporting and Provide Coordination Support
  • Contribute to the preparation of updates to the Executive Board, including the annual information note on the implementation efforts on the repositioning of the UN development system as well as the UN development system checklist reporting.

  • Coordinate and help draft inputs in response to other UN reporting requirements.

  • Maintain contact and work collaboratively with groups and units at Headquarters and regional and country offices to help ensure timely response to requests for input and support.

  • Provide coordination support as necessary to relevant internal stakeholders involved in processes related to UN system-wide coherence.

  • Coordinate and help prepare input for statements, talking points, briefing notes and other relevant written products for use by senior management, including the NYBER Director.

  • Collaborate with relevant groups and units to support corporate initiatives and the engagement of the organization in UN high-level summits and events.

  • Perform any other directly related duties as may be required in support of NYBER’s objectives and the effective functioning of the team.

       4. Knowledge Building and Knowledge Sharing
  • Help identify corporate areas in need of updates, and contribute to knowledge sharing opportunities and knowledge management products.

  • Contribute to the dissemination and sharing of good practices and lessons learned for knowledge building on inter-agency matters and UN system-wide issues.

  • Collect feedback, ideas and internal knowledge about processes and good practices.

  • Provide regular feedback on existing systems, tools and resources to ensure their relevance.

  • Support on-boarding of new colleagues.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Public Administration, International Development, Political Science, International Relations or related studies is required.

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in international development, public affairs, advocacy or a related area is required.

  • Prior experience working in the UN system is essential.

  • Coordination experience and experience in establishing relationships with UN system entities, development organizations and/or government counterparts is required.

  • Knowledge of inter-agency and intergovernmental processes is desirable.

Languages:

  • Full working knowledge of English is required.

  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
