About this position
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join the Office of the Secretary in a pivotal role. This individual will contribute to the decision-making process of the Boards and Committees of the IDB Group by preparing SEC for the discussion of corporate and operational issues, facilitating deliberations in which the Secretary and Deputy Secretary are involved.
You will play a central role in the work of the Office of the Secretary as it related to the Boards of Governors, Boards of Executive Directors and Management Committees of the IDB, IDB Invest and IDB Lab by undertaking background and analytical research, preparing summaries and comments prior to meetings. You will also have a role in supporting the continuous modernization of the Office of the Secretary.
What you’ll do
- Demonstrates deep knowledge of the IDB and client business. Establishes strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, IDB leaders and business units at multiple levels to maintain an institutional perspective of priorities and challenges. Fosters constructive and cooperative working relationships with SEC clients.
- Works with professionalism and confidentiality with sensitive topics related to the top levels of the organization.
- Supports the Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the review of documents for senior management committees, including the Operations Policy Committee, President’s Committee, Programming Committee and Finance Committee, among others.
- Demonstrates strong ability to identify, diagnose and recommend changes and improvements to SEC business processes and workflows to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Assist SEC Secretary and Deputy Secretary to evaluate services performance and outcomes and to identify new approaches that improve quality and efficiency.
- Works with the Deputy Secretary in the coordination of the Office of the Secretary Digital Transformation Program, following up on issues as needed and ensuring that client needs are being met.
- Works to develop change management strategies to drive improvement and helps to create synergies among SEC units.
- Contributes to decision-making by actively participating in working groups and representing the Office of the Secretary.
- Creates/edits comprehensive and complex documents.
- Builds and maintains networks inside and outside the IDB to support department’s performance according to SEC’s mission.
What you'll need
- Education: Hold a master’s degree or equivalent advanced university degree in economics, law, political science, public policy, public administration, government, international relations.
- Experience: At least seven years of experience in drafting concise summaries of technical documents under tight deadlines, including comments to be delivered at meetings of senior management committees.
- Languages: You have excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English. A working understanding of French or Portuguese would be a plus.

Type of contract and duration
- International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
